Do you know someone who farms their kid out more than normal people?

I do know one couple like this. And when they do see their kids they say how annoying they are - in front of them! I just don't understand why they ever had kids.
We try to avoid hanging out with them now because it's too sad. |

My kid is in SACC; I work full time. But nobody made me "prove" it, FYI. It's just a self attestation. So people could lie their way into SACC.... |

Yes. SAHD with two elementary aged children. The parents tried to pawn one of the kids off on us for 6 hours, on 30 mins' advance notice, a couple of weekends ago. Nuh-uh. I mean, the dad has 32 hours to himself to restring his guitar, etc. while they're in school, what could he possibly need 6 hours to himself to do on a Sunday?
To even try to impose on a family with two full time working parents is frickin' outrageous. Either work and get childcare so you can go play for 6 hours on a weekend day, or develop a network so you can shirk your childcare duties on the occasional weekend. Can't understand how that SAHD even looks at himself in the mirror. |

| I wish some parents would farm their kids off on paid professionals who might have clue on how to raise a kid. Some of the most horrid children I can think of have very "involved" parents. |

I can relate to this. I'm a child care provider and it happens all too often that some parents will try to get discounts on child care or they will try to squeeze an extra hour of care at no extra charge. However, they have no problem spending a fortune on sunglasses or shoes for themselves. I'm fairly certain that they don't ask the stores to discount the merchandise! |

WHY eould child care, of all things, be free???? The rest of us have to pay for it. It's offensive to other parents and insulting to your own children. Your children know they are being "pawned off", you are not fooling anyone. |

| I actually started a thread asking about articles relating other cultures and child rearing. I have heard that we are one of the only societies where the parents are expected to raise the child by themselves. In many other cultures the family is heavily involved in helping to raise the child. So maybe to you it's "farming" them out, but perhaps to them, they are using their time wisely...perhaps in a way that you are not aware of. If you are curious, then why not ask them instead of feeling sad for the child. Do you know what they do when they are not with their kids? Granted, if they are watching t.v. all day and eating Bon Bons, I too would feel very sad for the children...but we dont' know what goes on behind closed doors, do we? |
