You do know that leaders from USAID and adjacent agencies and NGOs formed a task force two years ago to address the grift of USAID, right? That there is a fraud associated with USAID is not even up for debate. This is a long-known issue. The problem is how to deal with it, and it seems people are not happy with just scrapping and starting over. But the fact remains, there was much fraud happening with those funds. Perhaps it's just a necessary evil, but acknowledging doesn't make someone an "ape."

The US has given billions over the years. The problem is: where has the billions gone?

Bono is charitable and has raised lots of money and likely given a lot. However, he is worth $700 million according to searches. I'd think $100 million could be quite helpful in Africa Aids help. Question is--are those in need getting the help or is it lining pockets of the distributors?

If the USAID funds were actually helping without massive fraud, this argument would be quite different.

Bono has given away a larger share of his money and done far more good for the world than sociopath Elon Musk.

I would like to hear more about why people think 1) cutting foreign aid will make a difference in the US budget (all of it, including US AID and other parts that could be considered global aid, is about 1% of the budget)
https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2025/02/06/what-the-data-says-about-us-foreign-aid/sr_25-02-06_foreign-aid_2/
and 2) why people believe there was some kind of massive fraud happening with USAID. Where is the evidence of that? There are lots of examples of the good it did and the lives America saved around the world through USAID. And when the rest of the world sees us as heroic, our influence and power grows. We should be proud of all the lives that were saved - and how that helped save US lives by bolstering our reputation -- with a tiny percentage of our budget.

Why are you trying to diminish the sums involved by claiming it’s only 1%?

1% is nearly $40 billion dollars. Every year.

Just a little rounding error. Who cares it’s all embezzled and plundered.

And now you're a liar who shills for Musk on the internet. Sad.

Are you certain of that? SpaceX, Tesla, saving astronauts from space,
How many people does Musk employ compard to Bono?

I'm not questioning that Bono is a good man. But, raising money and giving it away are two different things.

Except they are not. Mega churches on the other hand - those are scams and yet somehow tax exempt.

You are so uninformed. Bono has done a ton of development work on HIV and poverty in Africa. He cofounded One and has worked quite a bit with the global fund. He knows 1000 times more about the issues than Rogan, Trump and musk combined.

lol! Transfixed by celebrities - says the person mindlessly following a reality tv personality.

Regardless of his music, Bono is a humanitarian and has put decades of effort into that work. There are certain people who recognize they can use their recognition to help others have better lives. Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock, Audrey Hepburn, Dolly Parton. I have no clue why it’s so triggering to people that some people want to use their good fortune to help the less fortunate.

A leader in Jubilee 2000’s Drop the Debt campaign, he next took on the fight against HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty, co-founding sister organizations ONE and (RED). With ONE, Bono has lobbied heads of state and legislatures all around the world, helping to ensure the passage of global health and development programs, such as the U.S. PEPFAR AIDS program that alone has saved more than 25 million lives over the past 20 years. (RED)—which partners with companies to raise public awareness about, and corporate contributions for, the AIDS crisis—has to date generated more than $750 million for the Global Fund to treat and prevent AIDS in Africa.
Bono is also a cofounder of the Rise Fund, a global impact fund investing in entrepreneurial companies driving positive social and environmental change in alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

That is admirable. But, that does not change the fact that the USAID funds have been subject to massive fraud.

You'd think with all the money given to AIDS Africa that it would be over by now. Ask yourself why it isn't.

Such a stupid & shallow comment. Its not o only about the money!

Nice of him to raise money so NGOs and non-profits can continue to enrich themselves. His "ton of development work" has amounted to zilch.

+1. It’s clearly provided him with smug delusions of grandeur if nothing else.

Uh-huh. You're probably the scammer among the legit nonprofits. That's why you think they are all scammers, because you think they are all like you. Classic projection.

Even if this were true it's far less egregious than the trillions that our for-profit healthcare industry and others have been plundering.

Is it because he helps charities dealing with AIDS and HIV that is bringing out such disdain and hatred. One poster went so far to say that “with all the money given to AIDS Africa, it should be over by now”. I don’t think anyone needs to point out the ignorance of that statement, but I wonder if it’s because it’s AIDS she felt so emboldened to express her ignorance or something else. Should the American Heart Society, Muscular Dystrophy, Alzheimer, MS, and Cancer Society stop receiving support, because according to posters on this thread with all the money those organizations have received over the decades, those diseases should be over by now. There should be no more cancer or heart disease for sure.

Magic Johnson is still alive. AIDS can be cured with money. He was diagnosed 34 years ago.
