I am not sure you are aware of the extensive efforts by many Catholic churches to get their congregations to vote for Trump. It was relentless. Every single week, every single mass at our parish. It was intense and political and now we are all suffering the consequences.

So no. The church inserted itself heavily into the 2024 election. It is a political entity and that was its own doing.

I think most people’s unconscious bias only pops out when confronted…and if you look white, then nobody would make an assumption otherwise. The one drop rule is historic rather than a modern day thing. (I mean, many of us think Meghan Markle looks white and her kids certainly look white.)

And ftr, nobody is calling him the first black pope. He’s the first American pope.

His grandfather was from Haiti and his grandmother was black creole.

According to public records, they were both mixed, but, again, it's a societally determined social construct not particularly based on DNA or fact or anything objective.

Holy crap, that's outrageous. What parish was that? They should be admonished. Ours absolutely never talks politics like that.
