Need a dress for a summer garden wedding

Ugh no. Italians can do what they want but as an American I’m keeping to my feminine style. Life’s too short not to enjoy a frilly dress at a special occasion!

Polyester is so tacky

It’s hard to find a dress that’s NOT polyester unless you’re ok with linen. I’ve tried. I WANT my dress to breathe.

There are still silk dresses out there, but they're harder to find, and often more expensive.

Silk is hot.

I'm not overweight, so I'm comfortable wearing silk in the summer.

If you're good with secondhand, The Real Real, Thredup, and eBay are some good places to try! You have to be good with secondhand and willing put in the time searching.

Yup, I buy all my special occasion dresses secondhand, generally on the Real Real. I pretty much only wear silk for weddings, etc since it looks polished and breathes nicely. Silk looks much better than synthetics.

If you know your size in the particular designer that's great, but it can make sense to order up and get tailored. I get most special occasion dresses tailored even if it's just to shorted the straps.

OP, search by brand for dresses in your size. Filter by length (mini, midi, maxi) and then you can sort by price if you want. Keep in mind that designer sizes run smaller than mall sizes. I'd look at Sea New York, Ulla Johnson, Saloni, Cara Cara and Zimmerman for the party you're talking about.

We have the same taste. Let me add Sandro and Parker to the list.

I normally think of Bloomingdale's house brand Aqua as very teenybopper but saw this dress on an acquaintance around your height/size and it was stunning: https://www.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/aqua-printed-chiffon-maxi-dress?ID=5454347&CategoryID=2910 Maybe worth trying out since it's very reasonably priced and can always return if it disappoints in person. The website photos don't do it justice, I swear.

That's how I usually think of Lulu's dresses, but a friend of mine (mid-50s) just wore this to a wedding and looked so fabulous. She had a tailor partially sew up the slit and she wore it with a matching bright pink pashmina shawl.

My last few dresses were 1100-1200 and there is no going back to cheap crap.

I'll cop to have worn the same dress to most weddings I've been to in the last ten years. It's breathable and good for warm weather and doesn't wrinkle in transit.

This is not a flex.

It's not all or nothing. A $400 or $500 dress isn't cheap crap.

Look online at Wolf & Badger. You will find many, many dresses that will work well.
