Why are you requiring an ID that costs a lot of money + time? They are actually shutting down a lot of the USPS sites for passport interviews. Almost impossible to get right now. Any ID required for voting should be free. If you don't agree with that, then you don't love freedom, democracy, or liberty. |
"Love it for me but not for thee." |
And only the right would make no distinction between *an* ID, like a Real ID and approx 4 forms of ID (Real ID and Birth Certificate AND Marriage license AND proof of residence). I’ve been married 30 years and have no idea where my marriage license is. I haven’t needed it since before we moved 10 years ago. I do have a passport I’d use. But, most Americans do not. And getting on requires multiple forms of ID. And it looks like you still need to prove residence on top of that. If the SS Card and Real ID is good enough to get a job and get SS benefits and Real ID is good enough to fly, why aren’t these good enough to vote? Have their been actual instance of people committing voter fraud after presenting a Real ID (and proof of residency to register to voter)? Once you’ve jumped through the hoops once, why jump through them again every time you vote? If you show the documentation to vote in 2026, you have been cleared. Why do you need to keep showing it? Solution in search of a problem. |
If you live in a state that doesn’t have citizenship on your RealID, which is only a few states, you CANNOT use it. I have used my RealID/drivers license to vote in every election over the last 30 years. |
Where it faces long odds, according to the NY Times article. |

Anyone who says there are long odds for the GOP screwing over Americans is a total, blathering idiot. Call your senators! |
How many states actually had ZERO requirements to provide a photo ID to vote?
I keep seeing people say this should be a requirement, and it floors me because in every state I've lived and voted in, I always had to present my license to vote. I've lived and voted in VA, MD, MI, and PA. So which states don't have this requirement? The only one I'm fully aware of is WV because I have relatives who live there who vote without a photo ID. I'm all for needing to present a photo ID to vote, but a state issued driver's license or REAL ID should be sufficient enough. Especially because in obtaining a REAL ID, you have to present your birth certificate, so it goes off of that! This will actually end up hurting many MAGA voters. For example, my elderly MAGA aunt & uncle are refusing to get the REAL IDs. They don't have passports - heck, they've never traveled to any state that didn't border their home state of WV. I have 5 MAGA cousins who do not have birth certificates. Their parents raised them "off the grid" and each was only issued certificates of live birth, which are not official documents like birth certificates. I know this because I spent over a year helping my one cousin try to obtain a birth certificate using her certificate of live birth so that she could get some type of official photo ID to take the GED. It was a long process and there's no way most in a similar situation would put in the work to obtain their birth certificate. Also, on a tangent, it should be child abuse and illegal to NOT register your kid for a birth certificate. A certificate of live birth is pretty useless unless it was properly submitted to have a birth certificate issued. |
Not true. https://www.gov.uk/how-to-vote/photo-id-youll-need |
So no one has actually answered the question… |
I used to feel that way/ I've gotten a lot less excited about universal voting and free speech. |
Why are we trying to guess? I said above us if you think GOP is going to ever help Americans, think again. I’m not holding my breath. |
+1. It needs 60 Senators. And even with Fetterman vying to be Manchin and Sienma, it won’t get close. |
First, no they don’t in Europe. Bad RW talking point. Unless you want to post a link (to actual info, not a RWNJ podcast). Second, it’s a lot of trouble and expense, even for people with the means to travel overseas. Get out of your UMC bubble. For women forced to get a passport to vote, it’s a poll tax. |
Aren't Republican women more likely (than Democratic women) to take their husband's names, as well as less likely to have passports? |
