Sounds like you aren’t paying attention. It has been all over the news. Open your eyes and ears. They are trying to make it hard for anyone to make sense out of the crazy bills being passed so we give up and stop listening. Your sister clearly is paying attention. |
Ultimately, and this is more true than ever, Americans need to have a passport. Europeans have long known this importance.
Yes, this is a poll tax, but go ahead and get your passport if you don’t have one. Make sure you don’t let it expire. |
They are talking about it. Do you follow/read any free press? Any international press? It is everywhere. And it passed. Sounds like you are late to game- like most Americans- some who are in shock and just can’t believe it. Start paying more attention and do your due diligence. Blogger sites shouldn’t be the only way you get your press. |
Just wait till states can’t get your birth certificate to you on time, same with the Feds re passport. Backlogs of a year or more for women and/or Dems. Though, this seems poised to hurt MAGA women more. |
I'm moderate and I would never vote to take away rights. ESPECIALLY to "solve" a low incidence, low consequence problem. |
Yup. I applied for copies of mine and my son's. Mine showed up almost immediately but it's been past the 21 days Maryland said for my son's. Thankfully, I found real copies of his. We do need to get our passports. Ugh. |
One of the Dems who voted for it would be barred from voting. go figure. |
We’ve seen stupid people vote against their own best interests all the time. |
I had a baby 3 months ago. I listen to my alexia speaker every once and while. Too stressful listening to the news but I’m surprised no one is talking about it on here. |
Op here. I think there is a lot of misunderstanding going on. Lots are staying married women who changed their names need a passport AND two other forms of IDs. |
Can someone clarify something for me please?
Will you need a passport if your name doesn't match your birth certificate at the voter registration point in the process, or at the actual voting at your poll place on election day? All the social media posts I'm seeing are acting like it's the latter, which I understand it's the former. Not that I think it's less problematic, I just wish people would be precise in their criticisms. It weakens the outrage when the outrage is incorrect. |
Op here. Exactly. And remember most women who vote are already registered. My passport is with my married name. I could see this being a problem if you move to another state perhaps. I think need a photo ID, birth certificate and marriage certificate IF you don’t have a passport and aren’t already registered to vote. People are making it into this thing where women will be forced to change their name back to maiden name in order to vote. |
This is a very good summary of what is required: realID is no longer allowed for anyone, which is effing odd since you can’t travel without one this month. It sounds like everyone needs to more or less re-register with a birth certificate or passport, in person, in advance of voting. I say this because states can now kick anyone off the voter rolls, so you may not think you have to re-register, but then you do. I’ve always voted with my realID. Note that all the states who have fewest citizens with passports are all red, the most are all blue. The burden of proof shifts from the state to every single American. We’ve all gotten surly people at the DMV, which could be a huge problem now. What if they see you are registered Dem, are they going to help you? This is a massive problem, pp. https://www.americanprogress.org/article/the-save-act-overview-and-facts/ |
Read the link I just posted. States can kick you off the voter rolls. VA routinely did this at the last minute in 2024. You can’t use a realID and you can’t say you’ll never move. This is wrong! |
There needs to be a lot of outrage over this. In 1992 I stood in the college quad with an ironing board helping students sign up to vote in the hopes that Clinton would win.
No more voter registration drives allowed. I never could have imagined then that my future children would have so many fewer rights than me. If you’re not outraged, they’re going to take more from you. |
