RTO:Traffic is atrocious

Not everything is bad….
- My house is clean since no one is there during the day.

-I am walking more and eating better since I am not snacking at home 24/7 (I bring my own lunch)

-I am working less. 8hrs vs 10hrs at home. They are getting what they are paying for.

yes, this is common, thats why houses close in have been more valued until covid. This is why we bought 3 miles from DC.

+1
DH has an 80 minute commute each way whether by metro or by car, and he would much rather get exercise walking to/from metro and zone out on the metro itself.

This is my DH as well. Very much prefers the train.

I hate being around all those people so prefer to be in my own car even if stuck in traffic.

Crime has been terrible on metro and they are only now taking steps to curb it.

On top of the fact that metros and stations stink of weed all the time now.

Literally daily I see people, mostly teens, jump the gates. Why isn’t this being enforced? It just makes the environment seems like chaos.

all dc students get issued metro cards and can ride metro for free. yes, they are supposed to tap the gate, but most of these teens are just ... doing stupid kid tricks.

This + DH no loner expects me to do all the house chores (just most!)

Dumb take. I live in DC and spend the exact same amount of money, only downtown instead of in my neighborhood. In fact I spend less money on things like entertainment and eating out because I am losing 2 hours out of my day and don’t have time for that. The only entity I am paying more is Metro.

Not me.

- my house is messier because I don’t have the extra time or energy to clean
- I have to squeeze in my workouts now so am exercising less
- I am eating worse since I now have to make something fast and easy in the office instead of healthy at home

Love all these people who are home all day looking at their windows and seething over... what exactly? Walking their dogs while on a conference call?

Its my non-fed neighbors that seem to have lots of flexibility in their days to walk or do an errand mid-day. I have no doubt they get their work done but their is not specific time schedule. They are still working from home all or some. As a fed I needed to be available aside from my 30 min lunch break.

My commuter bus prepandemic was around 70 min, more on a bad day. During the pandemic, it was less than an hour. Now, I’m switching to the Marc and metro now bc my commute home is now routinely 90-120 min. The surface streets in DC are gridlocked. Between the Marc and the metro, I’m home in 60 min.

Yeah... no. The DC metro is fine.

Crime on Metro is down. With so many commuters now it feels safer than ever. That said; I could do without the crowding. I miss routinely getting a seat.

Per capita it is down, but the aggregate is still higher than in the before times.

And that's still fine.

I mean its better than the thunderdome of post pandemic, but way worse than pre-pandemic, both pre capita and in total.

You can nerd out over data all you want, in daily life for the average commuter, the Metro is perfectly fine.

Surprised Pikachu face.

Nobody is going out to eat when they don’t know if they will have a job in a few months. even with a secure job, inflation means that you can only afford to take your family out rarely.
