"Nobody cares" til their ECNLRL "superstar" freshman doesn't make the varsity team and wonders why.
OP, thanks for putting out the Mclean numbers. I've heard several other FCPS school with similar tryout situations. Hope this gives those crazy parents/club coaches some perspective.

Where would they play? Most HSes in FCPS only have one football field, and that field has to accommodate both boys and girls JV and varsity lacrosse and soccer in the spring.

There should be freshman teams or JV1 JV2. If Football can accomodate Freshman, JV and Varsity teams why can't they for soccer?
At a minimum, because there is so much demand, some schools should offer after school pick-up soccer or intramurals within their own schools. Set up pug goals and let the kids go at.it.

Because football is JV/Varsity for boys only. That's 2 teams. If you do F/JV1/JV2/V, where are you getting the field spaces, coaches, and more realistically, BUDGET?

Football has freshman team. Soccer only has jv/varsity.

Why is it more important to fund freshman football---when JV football is usually no-cut---then freshman soccer. Soccer is a much more popular sport.

Do they cut kids after each tryout day or do the kids get the full week to tryout?

You're correct. I missed that. So 3 teams, one field. Soccer has 4 teams (JV/F Boys/Girls) and 1 field. While also competing for space with 4 lacrosse teams.

Baseball and lacrosse at our school are equally brutal for boys' tryouts.

I know Yorktown and WL cut twice- Wednesday and Friday

Meanwhile, the schools they play against can barely put a team together because they are so small. That's what happens when you let the whole area go to one school without boundaries.

McLean's an average size high school for FCPS. FCPS is probably going to shrink it because its building is small, and then they are going to have a problem getting enough kids to try out for some of the other sports in a few years. They don't get a lot of kids trying out for football as it is now, but soccer is different and they do well in some of the other less well known sports like boys volleyball and girls gymnastics.

Most schools have two turf fields. A stadium field and an auxiliary field.

Because according to the MAGAs, American football is an American sport and soccer is not.

Wait, where did all these soccer players come from...I thought McLean was a Pickleball Powerhouse with almost 1,000 kids playing pickle ball!

According to my DS who was a starter on the McLean varsity soccer team last year and he is trying out again this year, there will be an initial cut, and a final cut after that.
