Op here, ten toes down-- it does not make sense to let your weight get to a point where it's out of control, and then you qualify; that's backward thinking.
I am clear that 143 lbs. is not overweight. However, I am also clear that 143 lbs. quickly turns into 147, 152, 159, 165, etc. It is much harder to lose weight at my age, so instead of ballooning 20lbs, I nipped it in the bud at 10. Congrats are in order, but I get how weird people are these days, so the backlash tracks. However, this thread is an excellent reminder to keep this private in my regular life. I won't tell a soul even if I see you struggling. Also, no therapist on the planet can talk me out of my position. I was overweight in my 30s after having kids, and it is clear that being overweight at nearly 50 and beyond is more detrimental. |
Hi OP, I've been on tirzepatide for a year now. I had a lot to lose, and I have lost it. I don't know yet whether I'll be on it for life or not, but I might be. I do expect to be titrating it and/or spacing it out during the next year - while I figure out what maintenance will look like for me.
Over the course of this year I have spaced out or titrated my shots several times. Sometimes because I was travelling and couldn't manage the refrigeration aspect. Sometimes because it was the holidays and I wanted less appetite suppression. Occasionally it was accidental because I just forgot that it was "shot day". In the beginning (the first couple of weeks) I had to make sure I was eating enough and that was a bizarre life adjustment! It is important to make sure you're taking in enough calories to give you energy, not trick your body into thinking you're starting (you don't want to trigger any metabolic weirdness) and maintain your health. I think there is zero harm in waiting a day, two, or three before your next shot. If you had side effects from the medication when you started you might not want to wait beyond a few days, just so you don't have to start over w/ adjusting to it. You are on essentially the starting dose, which for many isn't even effective. You are lucky! You could reduce that dose to 1.5 perhaps and see if that allows back a bit more appetite. While you don't need to do this long term to get where you want to be, you do want to be taking calories in - zero food intake isn't a good idea. So yes - I'd wait a few days. Try to make sure you're eating (protein for starters. Protein shakes, prosciutto and cheese, a nice steak, etc...) Then see how it goes. You'll figure it out in the long run. |
Taking this drug at your weight and then not eating is disordered. Sorry, but it is. |
There are no congrats in order here. You are messed up. |
Thanks, OP. I find your posts interesting. |
+1 There is a reason why you wouldn’t be prescribed this by an ethical physician. |
I'm not sure how old your kids are, OP, but be aware that having a mother who is obsessed with her weight/doesn't eat is likely to cause issues for a daughter if you have one. Just something to keep in mind.
My mom completely messed up my body image and relationship with food. I survived the anorexia I had in college but it took additional decades to get my head straight. I went to great lengths to shield my tween/teen DD from all of my food/weight baggage and that's when I was finally able to let it all go. It was so much more important than a temporary number on a scale. |
Your primary care doctor. Possibly you GYN doctor. Weight Watchers. E. Lilly website. They have clinical resources. (Reluctantly)Amazon online clinic. Washington Center for weight loss (Alexandria), they have an Endocrinologist on staff that was involved with the clinical trials of these meds. |
NP I see Dr. Ali at VHC but I am very overweight (40 BMI) |
Not OP, but give me a break. Why are you here? Might you be focused on diet, exercise and your weight? Like, say, 99% of all women? You certainly weren't able to "let it all go" or else you wouldn't be hanging out and commenting on a "Diet and Exercise" discussion board. |
Also not the OP, but I've been part of many discussions here about the miracle of GLP-1s. It's not just one person. There are many of us who are very excited about this medication and the positive impact on our lives. |
+1 WTF? |
DP. So this forum is now officially only for those who are trying to lose weight in a disordered way? Because that’s what you are saying. |
Go on Reddit to read about lowering the dose, microdosing and split dosing. This board is very judgy re GLP1s |
It sounds like your dose it too high. I sometimes lose all interest in eating, but I find if I have a protein shake, I usually end up feeling better. I'm on a different med, but I usually go about 9-10 days between shots. I just don't need it on day 7. We all metabolize things differently. |
