Sorry buddy, all models show snow for Tuesday. Were you perhaps confusing Feb 11 with today? Idiot. |
Every non-school employer will be operating normally on Wednesday so MCPS employees could go in Wednesday to do these checks, but as you say they have no incentive not to f$ck up everyone's Thursday. |
Sorry, why would schools need to close for a couple inches of snow? I don’t get it. |
Because this is MCPS and they are incompetent and scared of their own shadows. |
No, because this entire region does. |
Yes the entire region might shut down on Tuesday. On Wednesday, only the school system's will. Everything else will be operating completely normally (apart from all the employees who have ti stay home with their kids). On Thursday only MCPS will shut down AM child care for "safety" |
Snow totals and timeline have changed since OP started thread. Now snow starting after 12pm on Tuesday with worst of it Tuesday night and Wednesday (4-8 in moco with worst in southern part of county for a change). I'm going with no school Tuesday (although they could do early dismissal), and no school Wed and Thursday. I guess kids will be in school the whole week of June 16...![]() |
June 16-18 then 20th. June 19th (until now Fed) holiday. That means teachers will need to report back on Monday June 23. |
If that’s the case I will agree with you and add delayed opening on Friday. |
And going to get worse moving forward. Next year they included only one snow day in the calendar in order to have the transition day on Monday, rather than the week before school. Presumably they’ll be doing that every year. |
After they’ve made up 3 days they can apply for a waiver. |
It will be 46 degrees and rainy on Thursday |
+1. That's what I think they'll do. So the last day for students would likely be June 18 and for teachers June 20. |
I feel bad for teachers who will have their summer vacation put off, but at least they won't have to go to work the following week. |
Because some models predicted 8 inches as of this Sunday morning. So unless there’s more of a consensus on 2 inches… every school district will err on the side of caution. There’s actually a plausible scenario where, due to marginal temps, it starts snowing Tuesday morning but doesn’t accumulate seriously until the sun sets, which shaves off multiple inches from the snowfall total. In which case we should have school, but cancel after school activities on Tuesday (or early release), and then have a delayed start or a closure on Wednesday and a full day on Thursday. Point is: still a lot of uncertainty in the forecast! I’d like to reiterate that it’s not the school districts’ fault that we live in an urban setting prone to traffic woes AND a climate that’s always on the edge of snowstorms. Everyone wants to avoid the Stuck in Snow On 495 With Multiple Accidents scenario. We lived it once before. |
