Predictions Snow Feb 11?

They don’t have a bus system like us

I think it was the right call to wait. It may still be ok to have an on time dismissal. I don’t see the harm in making a call at 10 when you have the most information. Everyone should have their contingency plan ready. It’s different than making a call at 5 when people wake up and need to scramble at 6AM

I assumed on time and a decision about school activities will be made by noon.

Most are closing 3.5hrs early. High school bells have already started. They are closing early

It's not that I am unhappy. It's that they are behaving very out of character.

Sorry, I meant they are not closing early

According to the website, early dismissals can be called as late as 10:30.

Do you not care about kids slipping and falling in the ice? That's the reasoning behind the numerous child care closures MCPS has mandated this year.

I’m just worried for the younger teachers with kids in daycare or early dismissal at their oh their county schools.

I agree because early dismissals are really chaotic for people with young children. (And And don't forget, a lot of teachers have children so they have to stay with their own students, but also figure out plans to have someone else pick up their own children ) So the sooner they call it, the sooner people can start figuring out plans

People should be planning for all possible outcomes. You don’t have to wait until an early dismissal has been called to make plans for what you will do *if* it gets called. We all knew last evening that there was some chance that an early dismissal *might* be called today.

This is ridiculous. They know they are gonna call it. Call it now.

Last update was 16 hours ago. Time for another one. Let’s go MCPS. Stop acting like people aren’t anxiously awaiting the plan for today.

They are saying there should be an update by noon.

They aren't going to release early. Just accept it! It hasn't even started snowing yet. You people are such wimps.

Yes but so did all the neighboring systems.

How many snow days did the other systems build into their calendars?

I don’t know but I would consider that less relevant to to the decision to close schools and more relevant to calendar planning. The calendar has been made; if it’s safe and feasible to go to school, fine— and if it’s not, it’s not. Hopefully nobody says conditions aren’t great but we don’t have any snow days left.

They couldn't predict a La XYZ winter.

As a child I can remember being in elementary school and seeing snow fall out the classroom windows. Then the message came over the PA system that we were going home early. I remember the feeling of total elation and cheering in the classroom and I was pretty sure (up to this point) that such a scene would never be replicated for my kids. Ah, nostalgia...

Not as much as getting up in the morning of to hear read see school was closed.
