I’m sorry to hear that, PP. I assume you are Guatemalan? I don’t know that I would describe that real and horrific abuse as an indictment of NGOs in general. There were for profit adoption agencies in the mix, and religious organizations, as well as governments turning a blind eye. There are evil or self serving people in every walk of life. People working in NGOs are not heroes or saints, just people doing jobs for organizations that don’t take profits.

Some will. Conservation? Maybe. Pure environmental advocacy? Probably not. Support for hospitals or surveillance systems? Probably. I am a second generation German American and I know American history perhaps a fair bit better than you do, considering your comment.

Given the history of how USA has interacted with Nazis and our current dalliance with Nazism there is a fundamental need to balance the scales.

As the descendant of American Nazis I feel a moral debt to Israel and the preservation of it for Jews everywhere, but I know it will actually be the zealous advocacy of American evangelical Christians who will demand ongoing nearly unfettered support for Israel, because she is necessary for the fulfillment of their end times prophecy.
