| Is anyone talking about Trump's moratorium on foreign aid programs? Absolutely no money can be spent on any program for at least 3 months and many will be cancelled. That's like a tsunami hitting the DC area because so many people work for contractors and NGOs doing foreign aid work. Where will these people find jobs? |
| And what’s going to happen to people out there in the world for whom these funds are literally life or death? |
They die, I guess. |
| It will allow China to fill the void…wow, great job! |
| There’s a thread in the politics forum. |
I try to avoid that forum ... |
+1. trump is so stupid. |
The ones with clearances will be scooped by defense/defense contractors. Which is sad because the expertise and experience can’t be replaced, but they won’t starve. |
| A lot of these organizations are in Virginia, which will of course be on the hook for unemployment if the EO leads to mass layoffs. Wondering how Youngkin is going to react when half a million folks who used to work for Chemonics and MSI and John Snow and Deloitte lay off their international development teams. |
This, terrific opportunities for our enemies. Scary that Trump and his cabal seem to have no grasp of this. |
Of course not. They don't get soft power or nuanced diplomacy. They're all transactional so if the benefit is not tangible to them, it must not exist. |
| I have friends in US AID who are just on admin leave in their current posting. I don’t think there’s any indication on how long it will last or next steps. |
| It's all fraud waste and abuse |
That's a good point - DMV includes VA. Wonder what Youngkin will say when unemployment increases a lot in VA - yes there's lots of defense companies, but most won't sponsor clearance. |
What's your evidence for this? |
