The bottom fit is so much more flattering, and the overall look is much better. I don't know what she's punishing her own boobs for, though -- I feel like I'm an unwilling participant in something. But otherwise lovely.

She has a beautiful figure and I personally really like the restraint Usha has with hair and makeup. She has great skin and is turning grey in a pretty way.

I still think she’s gross and I have my own good reasons to be disgusted by the Chua-Rubenfeld YLS clique…but she’s never gonna get obvious surgery or make the rookie errors of Ivanka with her pwecious toddlercore “professional” looks. Usha Vance knows better, which is a stain on her for being involved in (sweeps hands around) all that.

Barbara Bush was not presenting herself as a fashion icon, and neither was Rosalynn Carter. They wore safe, boring basics. Pretty much the same for (First Lady) Hilary Clinton, Pat Nixon, Betty Ford. Lady Bird Johnson, too, and Laura Bush. Nancy Reagan had her sort of armor of bright color and strong suits, but nobody would have said she was trying to be fashionable as opposed to making safe, reliable choices.

Michelle Obama was both younger than many before and chose to highlight American designers quite publicly. Her fashion choices became a topics, in part because she wanted them to be a topic for the sake of those designers' visibility.

And then you get Melania Trump, who had made a living from her appearance. (Trust me, Barbara Bush did NOT.) She made attempts at being fashion forward (can you imagine Rosalynn Carter in "I don't care, do u?"), and her supporters were incessant in praising her looks, her fashion, her visual appeal. That's going to spark conversations, so here we are.

I don’t know how old you are but Nancy Reagan was absolutely positively viewing herself as a fashion icon. I think you’re just forgetting what 80s fashion was. She could go head to head with the ladies of Dallas and Dynasty on fashion. Nancy was a huge Bob Mackie fan and muse.

And I think you’re selling Pat, Roslyn and Laura short as well. None of them were looking for cutting edge fashion (well, actually I think Pat and Julie had a little reputation for looking the fashion stuff) but they all really understood the importance of looking the part and fashion creating the part.

I really. really don’t want Usha yo turn into a fashion icon. But I do want her to find a comfortable flattering style that looks the part and looks like her. Much like Laura B and Pat N were able to do. (Incidentally Laura used to have her hair done regularly at the now-shuttered Andre Chreky on K street.)

I cannot stand Vance. But She is highly educated woman she doesn’t need to dress to
Impress people. Leave that to the air heads in Trumps administration.

Um, what? Attacks not just on women but girls in the WH have been relentless. Have you forgotten how many attacks were leveled at Chelsea Clinton, nevermind Hillary?

I don’t like the black dress at all (what are those weird buttons?) but it is appropriate and fits her properly and is flattering on her, so — it’s not what I would pick if I had an unlimited budget to buy something nice for a fancy party, but it is totally absolutely fine.

I think Vance will resist any pressure to do appearances she doesn’t want to do, and will get a sane stylist who will keep her in quality designer wear, and that’s that. She’s in great shape but isn’t going to be a Lara Trump tacky twin, and she doesn’t seem susceptible to getting her face rotated like Melania. We’ll see!

I don’t think she is nasty. We are just one degree of Kevin Bacon and everyone says they were both (JD, too) very nice and normal.

Power can do crazy things to people. Too bad, because they could have done a lot of good.

Yeah my understanding is that she wasn’t even in the Federalisf Society at YLS, which is sort of the bare minimum for a striving YLS conservative. She didn’t seem like the typical Chua-Jed acolyte (and I agree with PP that is a distasteful group). I think she just ended up in Chua’s small group with Jed, and the rest is history. Yet another YLs small group marriage.

So she didn't't make her errors politically when she was young and naive; instead, she chose them later in life, with the experience and understanding to see where this was headed. Not really an excuse.

She is super cringe. And I cannot believe she married that dough boy. But I do not think she is a nasty person at heart. Just someone who got way caught up in the power.

This is so sexist.

Yes this is improved, I just still do not think the strapless sweetheart (?) neckline is the most flattering choice for her. Not terrible by any means but it feels like there should have been better options when you are at this level of exposure. Staying in the fashion and beauty, not touching the politics.

I for one am glad Ol' Gal brushed her hair and apparently bought shape wear that fits.

Now just dye those greys and we'll be in a much better place.

Usha's gown last night was from Oscar de la Renta

Incoming Second Lady, Usha Vance, wears a custom noir velvet gown with asymmetric floral accents and a sweetheart neckline for the Vice President’s Dinner.

Weirdly I bet you didn't think it was sexist when I said Jill Biden dressed like shit lol.

Of course not. There is a group of posters here who freak out the second you say anything even mildly negative about Usha. I actually think it may be family members given the obsession with quelling any discussion of her.

I don't think she dresses well and frankly I don't even think she's that pretty. I do think the Cabinet dinner was the best she's ever looked. Huge step up from some of her past appearances, including, some of her greatest hits like "shoes that were falling apart at the sole" and "constantly brushing hair out of her face while speaking because she didn't bother to brush it before going on stage."
