| A person is so desperate that they are begging for a few dollars in the cold in the street while you live in million dollar homes and drive a warm car and YOU complain? You are vile. |
It’s that attitude that empowers people to panhandle rather than get an entry level job at Aldi or Safeway. It’s more profitable to stand around with a sign when you don’t have to pay taxes on cash. |
| Actually your attitude is why we don't have a social safety net which would mean people wouldn't have to beg for help. |
Knock out game opportunity missed! |
We have social safety nets that have been exploited/ overrun by illegals that you Dims allowed in. |
I am afraid of him. If I need to turn left into dolly Madison, I make sure to stay in the 2nd lane because I don’t want him to damage my car or spit at my car. I saw he did to cars. |
These are almost all perfectly able-bodied individuals, able to stand for hours outdoors in all weather conditions. And, as others have noted, there are many, many instances of evidence that the vast majority are in fact professional beggars panhandling in a deliberate and organized manner, supported by employers who provide them with daily transportation or who have and can afford to drive their own vehicles to "work" every day. A few are patently mentally ill and or homeless, but most do not appear to fall into those categories. Try giving the beggars food or toiletries; they discard them immediately. They want money only. And, for those who need food or shelter, there are social services available which do not require accosting passersby for money with which to buy alcohol or drugs. |
| These people only want $$$. Do NOT give them money and they will eventually go way. It is actually a public safety issue as they are standing in medians and sometimes in the streets as car are passing. Why the County won't step up and enforce existing laws to keep people out of the street is amazing to me. People would rather go to the street than get a job at Aldi or Trader's Joes. Do not give them $$$. |

I now carry business cards for a local food program and hand these out if approached in parking lots, grocery stores.
I get approached often - so much so that if I’m in a hurry I wave my hands and say no-nope-gotta run. This is effective. |
I think what bothers people in mclean about the beggars is that they are getting paid well. The beggars are not poor enough to beg. People complain that one beggar has a nice Jeep. While the lawyers and doctors of McLean get rich off sick people, government contractors suck up taxpayer funds and lobbyists bribe government officials, it’s the beggars who draw fire. |
| We should be shaking our fingers at all the rich Mclean people who took fraudulent PPP loans when Trump was handling out free money. We taxpayers didn’t choose to give free money to the rich beggars. If you don’t want to give to street corner beggars, don’t. |
| Welcome to living in the greater Washington area. |
| When you see the beggars there day after day, you realize that they show up to the job every day, stand on their feet all day in all types of weather and take a lot of attitude and rude comments in stride to get their money. They are working harder than most people in Mclean. |
Many have brand new shoes! Take a look. They have cell phones, too. There is a ring of them and they are told which intersection to go to. The McLean guy near the police station is now at Arlington near Preston’s. |
They are able-bodied and able to stand/pace/walk for hours a day and need few breaks. There’s a YouTuber who drives around and offers construction work to those panhandlers holding signs like, “need work - anything helps.” He gets very very few acceptances. When was the last time you saw a dcum area panhandler holding a sign saying, “needs work”? |
