McLean going downhill

Is McLean named after the low calorie menu at McDonalds?

Literally almost every corner in annadale, (little river turnpike), alexandria, parts of Arlington and fairfax have panhandlers on them. OP come take a drive.

I live in McLean and know that intersection well. There are various different people that panhandle there. It does seem new in the last couple of years. A decade ago I didn’t see people there, or even around Tysons.

Nope, it's one of few districts that votes Republican. Newt Gingrich lives near J Gilbert.

Legend has it, if you give money to a legless panhandler you’ll get your money blessed back to you by the end of the day.

It’s true. I give money to a legless man and I always randomly find money somehow that same day.

His real house is in Naples Florida.

There's a reddit thread about NOVA median panhandlers here:

There is a person standing at the intersection of Great Falls and Dolley Madison, right across from the police station. That person is there everyday, and the police is not doing anything about it.

Not far from there I recently saw an older couple sitting in their minivan. When I walked by the woman got out and showed me a sign asking for money.

Also witnessed FC police responding to a complaint about him walking into traffic at that light.

See also: Nutley Street and City of Fairfax Scout on the Circle - every median. Every corner.

I know about the one by j Gilbert’s intersection. There’s a new one by the gas station. Maybe there’s so many I haven’t noticed..

theses been one hanging out at 123 and great falls. been there for years.

Because it is constitutionally protected.

You’re just noticing this?

That is partly incorrect. You can absolutely fine and charge people for public safety reasons. All it takes is for Fairfax county to pass a law making it illegal to exchange objects in the median of the road.

This isn't a McLean problem, it's all over inside the beltway. We bought in McLean 10 years ago, and I never expected that we'd be shielded from something so common as homeless or panhandlers in the tiny downtown area. I will agree that the number of intersection beggars has increased in that time, but I've seen the same where I work in Arlington, and Falls Church. They just look for high volume intersections.

It is a policy problem. They can be arrested for public safety reasons if the county wants to do so.

There isn’t a single precinct in McLean that has voted Republican in years. They just don’t have a meltdown if some of their neighbors are Republicans.
