Tiny or odd things that make your morning better

Not sure why this is post worthy. It's all normal and everybody dies this, no?

I thought this was going to be more like "getting 3 consecutive green traffic lights commuting"...or...."kids woke up in a good mood".

Pee-setting the coffee maker and setting out the breakfast non perishables isn't ground umique.

Agree. I came here ready to tell about a certain dog that I only see some mornings and how happy it makes me to see him (he’s a fat corgi named after a very tall NBA star) and how there’s always one woman at the crosswalk if we are en route to school on time and DD gets excited if she sees “crosswalk lady” because that means we’re on track.

Wrong thread, I’ll see myself out!

This thread sounds better to be honest.
I love it when I beat the school buses at drop off and don't have to wait for them. WINNER.
When it's dress down day and my newly fashion conscious DD shows up with an Outfit.
I know there's a Bethesda walking man but where we live we have a walking girl and we love spotting her. A fat corgi would be even better.

OP, I recently started doing all the things that you do with intention. It is awesome! I love it. I sometimes lay out my workout or work clothes. I got ahead on the dishes, so maybe I will unload them at night. I have been doing them while making breakfast, but the flow can get off.

Oh! I also prep my shower with a fresh wash cloth. In the morning, I turn on the radio while getting ready. I like listening to intern John and Sauce and Rose talk about random stuff.

I’m not a night person, so I usually just load the dishwasher dishes and put away leftovers after dinner but do the handwashing in the morning. Most people don’t like it this way, but I much prefer it to standing there handwashing pots at night.

same. I am such a AM person and not PM person that I prefer to do dishes before I leave for work. AS much as it bums out others to wake to a kitchen sink with dirty dishes, it bums me out more to have to stay up to do them.

OP isn’t an overachiever… this is just what people did before generations became more focused on work and scrolling TikTok instead of “adulting.”

Setting the table for breakfast? Cutting fruit each morning for children ?

(And this was never what “people” did, it was what women did. And it IS work.)

I started re-learning piano after many decades of being away from it. Right now I'm working on Mozart's Sonata in C (the Facile Sonata- you'll probably recognize it) and every morning I play about 15-20 min, more on the weekend.

Then for the rest of the day, I have this tune running in my head, or whatever section I'm working on. I'm so pleased, because after only 2 weeks, I'm already getting much better. Not sure if I'll ever regain the technical skills I had at age 17, the age I quit lessons, but I'm really happy with my progress and realize how much I used to love to play. It's also different now, as an adult, and not a child being reminded to practice.

I find it's a really lovely way to start the day.

Not having to deal with whiny, back talking, tired children. Cherish your mornings, DINKs.

I have alarms going off every five minutes to keep track of time. If I'm wasting time, sometimes I'll set a mini goal like get dressed and brush teeth before the next timer. (Not a morning person, but this helps)

I’m familiar with coffee enemas, but this goes too far. Gross!

Another one here!

If you were my spouse your phone would end up outside in the snow.

Yeah, the title was tiny or odd things, not a self-help list. So could be things you do OR things you experience. PP was the one person who zeroed in on tiny and odd in things she experiences that make her morning.

He forgot last night and it messed up my whole morning. On the rare morning I get up and we've run the dishwasher AND hand washed all the dishes AND there are no dishes drying by the sink - wow, fantastic

I refuse to go to bed without cleaning the kitchen. I hate waking up to a mess. I love the feeling of starting fresh each morning.

I love my coffee-making ritual. It gets me up in the mornings.

THIS

If you’re looking for a life hack, give this a try. I have All Clad pans and Wusthof knives and Yeti water bottles and all of them are perfectly fine in the dishwasher.

I hand washed our huge cutting board the other day because it’s too big to fit in the dishwasher unless we remove a rack and that wasn’t worth it and I realized I hadn’t hand washed anything in probably all of 2024. It’s a life saver.

Little things like this make me realize that other people are leading very different lives from me...

Setting the breakfast table?! What does that even entail? We eat breakfast together every morning but people’s utensils depend on what they’re having. If I put forks out but my daughter ends up with yogurt, she needs a spoon. If I put spoons out but my husband makes scrambled eggs, he needs a fork. If I put anything out but I make a breakfast burrito then that was a waste.
