If Pensacola and Memphis were your ONLY two options, where would you live?

I'd shoot myself.

Man those are hard choices - both suck sorry OP!

The better place is FL as crime is really a hard thing to overlook. But with TN you limit your climate disaster potential which is very real in our times.

I don't know, if it were me, I'd want to really scope out the neighborhoods and get a feel. Such a personal decision and not one is obviously better so it comes down to where you are going to be most comfortable. Does that make sense?

An example to share - I detest with every living fiber the whole of DMv. I've tried hard to embrace it but I find it completely soulless and unfriendly. No imagination anywhere. I'm from Chicago and I love small towns and big cities but not DC area. However, I'm resigned to stay here because of DH. So I chose for me the most comfortable place I could and it's doable for me. I still am not happy to be here but I can take it. So it's all about finding a neighborhood you can enjoy. For me, there is nowhere else I can see myself living even if it's not a perfect location for me here, I've found my home by process of elimination.

You can likely find your home anywhere. But do favor in the stuff you cannot deal with at all. Process of elimination can help you figure out what place works best and then find the neighborhood that charms you most there

Not much diversity? LOL. Clearly you've never stepped foot in town.

Memphis is a much more diverse city. Pensacola is typical right wing military retiree trash, the reddest part of a red state.

Memphis is deep deep blue despite being in a trashy red state, and is very culturally and racially diverse and has a thriving culture in music and arts.

If you want to live around trumpy middle class white people in their 50’s, that’s all you have in Pensacola. If you want to be in a vibrant and diverse city where Black and Brown people are free to to as they please, then Memphis is your only choice.

Hey, on the upside, you wouldn’t need to in Memphis - someone would do it for you while carjacking you

What are you talking about? The City of Pensacola is 14% black. The surrounding areas are even more heavily black.

Also, you're a special kind of trash for speaking this way about people who sacrificed 20 years of their lives for you. Oh, I know you didn't ask. That's what makes it a sacrifice and you utter trash.

NP.

In any event, OP, I would not want live around such vulgar people as habitat the environs of either location.

OP here
I'm still reading through all the posts. Basically it's about job opportunities. For many reasons, I really want to move out of my current home. We've wanted to for several years, but our kids were still in school up until this past summer. We currently own a house in a DC exurb, and while it was nice as a family with young kids, I'm just over it now. Moving to another part of the DC area would likely require downsizing, and my husband doesn't want that (but I do!)

My husband (our primary income) has job offers in Memphis and Pensacola. He's been looking at the job market for his skills for a few years now and these two areas seem like the most likely place, besides DC, where he can get a job.

So you're empty nesters with the opportunity to relocate to Pensacola and enjoy the Florida beaches and year round outdoor living? Go to Pensacola TODAY and take me with you!

WTF?

Memphis. Lots of music and not as conservative as the rest of Tennessee Pensacola is a Navy town so unless you are navy, you probably won't like living there .

Milton is paradise for trumpers. They have a Bucees.

Have family members who live in both. Neither of them are worried about crime. If you move to FL, rent don’t buy. It is very hard to find homeowners insurance and expect this will only get worse. Multiple times a year you have to board the house and pack up valuables pets on go inland to avoid the hurricanes. Hard to find friendships if you are not extremely MAGA. Don’t hear these concerns from Memphis family.

Memphis suburbs are nice. Great private school scene. Less of a rat race. Good food scene and fantastic music/arts. It’s a college town, so tons of young people around.

We have extended (Jewish) family who have been in Memphis for a few generations. Very involved in their community. If you’re UMC you can live VERY WELL - cheap nice housing, private schools, country club, etc.

Let’s be real: The DCUM crowd won’t be living in the crime ridden parts of Memphis.
