If Pensacola and Memphis were your ONLY two options, where would you live?

Memphis. Great weather, terrain, can get around.

No mosquito problem, hurricane issues.

Let me guess....Navy?

Pensacola for sure. I jist think it would be safer crime-wise.

South of the park is Overton Square, which has a lot of shops/restaurants (and you’d also be close to Cooper Young). So something in the middle would be like this:

But the area to the west of the park is the nicest, so maybe something like this:

We stayed in an AirBnB on S Cox St in Cooper Young. We absolutely loved the neighborhood!

OP here
Thank you! I really like the one on Peach Street! And yes, these are the kind of areas I'm looking for!

OP here
I'm still reading through all the posts. Basically it's about job opportunities. For many reasons, I really want to move out of my current home. We've wanted to for several years, but our kids were still in school up until this past summer. We currently own a house in a DC exurb, and while it was nice as a family with young kids, I'm just over it now. Moving to another part of the DC area would likely require downsizing, and my husband doesn't want that (but I do!)

My husband (our primary income) has job offers in Memphis and Pensacola. He's been looking at the job market for his skills for a few years now and these two areas seem like the most likely place, besides DC, where he can get a job.

I am now SO curious what field this is where the booming job markets are DC, Pensacola, and Memphis!

My guess would be manufacturing or flight (fed-ex Memphis, navy pens)

Neither.

You could easily run into MAGAS down there.

I would just stay in DC. Esp if you are a POC and aren’t MAGA

Why does everyone on DCUM assume that everyone hates maga? Half the people in this country voted for it. That was a huge mistake thinking dems would win because they weren’t Trump.

Pensacola because I like living by the water.

Pensacola is not bad. Sounds terrible to DC type people but people who live there there looove it. Lots of military in and out, 30A beaches not too far away, Tallahassee/ FSU/ etc not far. You can get a nice big house and have a boat. Go for it!!

MAGAs don’t live in Midtown Memphis. In the suburbs, yes.

Avoid Pensacola. Not much diversity and too right leaning.

OP: Please research violent crime in the Memphis Metro area. This should make your choice easier. Memphis metro has recently been ranked as the most violent metro area in the country by the FBI.

Either way, you will be assuming the risk of stormy weather (Pensacola) or being a victim of a crime of violence.
