College and University Discussion
I'm not a big fan of northern schools in general, but I have to chime in...this is some double back flip level of hypocrisy meeting lack of self-awareness bathed in irony. |
It has nothing to do with calling themselves the Crusaders. |

My spouse went to Holy Cross.
I love that classmates in the area are still friends decades later. A lot of Holy Cross students who are NOT from the DMV land here. It is a really supportive place with well-rounded students who are probably in the top 10-15% of their HS class. Writing seems to be a focus. The Catholic part is take it is as you go. Great foundation for those who are called to practice. Nothing is mandatory except a theology class or two. You can take those in faiths other than your own, as well. I am very impressed with how many students do community service. It is cold, but that makes for good bonding. Students can also intern in Boston (or NYC/DC). |

I went there and it is a great school. Vast majority go onto law or med school or another graduate school. (I went to law school and was big law before I went in house)
A true Jesuit school that focuses on social justice issues. For sure, many kids are conservatives but there are many liberals too. A small school and very tight knit. Son Amazing new buildings and an incredible sports performance center. Esp for a small school. Alumni are very generous. It always drives me crazy to compare admissions rates. Because Holy Cross is not the type of school where kids just apply to apply and dumps apps. It attracts top students year after year. Maybe not top 5 percent. It too 10-15 percent. There said, the admissions rate last year droppped to under 20 percent. Not again, this stat drives my crazy at school like Holy Cross. Doesn’t tell you much about whether the same kids that last got in are still getting in. As for Worcester. I was just there. I think the hate is not justified. I think the problem is that it is compared to Boston and of course it loses. But it is the second largest city in NE. Hasmany nice areas and restaurants and is a big college town so plenty of things for kids to do (read, bars). I toured tons of colleges with my son and went to many many cities and suburbs. Worcester is much better and offers a lot more. Convenient to many other cities. Just my two cents. |
| Sorry for all the typos. In a car! |
| You forgot Fairfield |
| I have a DC at HC - Worcester has some cute areas that I don't think were there back in the day and the kids seem to be very nice overall. There is some DC area presence but not a ton. My DC likes it academically and socially. They went ED2 and were accepted. |
