Villanova is much better (and more prestigious) than HC.

For what it is worth, HC has a lower admit rate on its 23-24 CDS (21%) than Villanova did on its (25%) and HC has a higher yield rate (45%) than Villanova (30%). Perhaps HC is a more particular category of institution than Villanova drawing a more self-selected group of applicants?

SAT/ACT and GPA stats seem to favor Villanova though.

It depends on what a kid wants. Holy Cross is more like a LAC, so the kids who prefer that will pick it over the others.

My niece transferred out after one year. I tried to talk her out of going there but they gave her a free ride and dangled a prestigious school in front of her for a 3-2 program. She was going to be a math/physics major and transfer to an engineering program, which was supposed to be "guaranteed" if studens had a certain GPA. She then found out that only 4-5 were accepted every year out of 50 or so who applied.

I guess if a student wants a TINY school that is pretty much all white students from the Northeast, it's fine. But the course offerings were slim and good clubs were non-exsistent. And the town is a dump. Campus was okay but certainly not gorgeous! My niece couldn't wait to transfer out. Ended up at a top-15 public where she had to take high-level math classes over again because they didn't accept her credits from HC. So that's a bit telling.

I'm sorry your niece didn't enjoy her experience there. You're obviously still bitter about it. No school is the perfect fit for everyone. But HC is actually quite large for a liberal arts college, with more than 3,000 students. It has a strong track record of graduates accepted into great medical and law schools, and a list or prominent alumni that's as impressive as any other liberal arts school in the country. It also has a strong focus on service, and many like that it offers D1 athletic opportunities with the intimacy of a small school. I personally would prefer being in a mid-sized city like Worcester than some of the remote rural towns where many liberal arts schools are located. But, to each their own.

Yea that poster clearly has a bizarre ax to grind. Somehow, I doubt the “top 15“ public school declined to accept transfer credits from Holy Cross because it’s Holy Cross. They obviously just have a strict credit transfer policy.

US News ranks HC as on par with Bate’s, Colby, Bryn Mawr, Macalaster and Colorado College. None of these schools may be Amherst or Williams, but they are all highly respected liberal arts colleges. They certainly are no less highly regarded than Villanova

It’s prestigious the way Northeastern is prestigious - on dubious grounds and only in the last 10 years.

I’ve always considered it a party school for NJ/NY kids with a great basketball team.

At our high school, Northeastern is one of the top schools for the top students.

LOL not a party school. And a much harder admit than you might imagine. My child who was a legacy was WL and wound up at a Top 15.
