Just stop with the “Americans don’t want those jobs.”

There are a lot of ways for us to improve the quality of life for Americans through cutting off this labor source:
1) Labor shortages will drive up wages and people will want those jobs
2) Automation for things like meat packing, agriculture and manufacturing
3) increase vocational training for the trades (we graduate many kids with no marketable skills and need pressure from business to reform K-12 education and apprenticeships)
4) we support many able-bodied adults with many welfare programs (many Democrats argue that they are “unable” to work due to addiction, lack of education and work habits, etc. Perhaps if the alternative was destitution, they would be more motivated to show up to a job.)

In short, why should we rely on a continuing supply of low paid unskilled laborers to benefit corporations, but who exact many direct and indirect costs on society and American citizens?

PP wants things to cost more.

Let the free market work. Yes, goods will cost more for awhile as we adjust, but society is bearing lots of costs that you are not including in the price of produce, etc.

"Let the free market work" says the person who wants to prevent the free market from working (the free market includes labor).

Last time he deported some DREAMERS who check in before headed to college.

He deported a grandmother or 2.

Otherwise his efforts were about as impactful as building a wall.

All talk with a few tragic and useless deports.

To the extent there is a large population, I'd have to guess we'd be seeing up close and personal what Trump's deportation plan is going to look like.

So - what's it going to look like? What are the pros, cons, first order, second order effects.

I feel like this could be one of the most significant policy implementations in modern history.

Do you think MD will cooperate with ICE?

The real question is will ICE be prepared or will they be understaffed then blare MD when they aren’t there to deport when criminals are released after serving their sentence.

This is totally bizarre why would Arlington allow a bunch of illegal immigrants to demand ice to leave?

If you think it’s bizarre then you don’t understand the constitution of the United States.

Are YOU even a US citizen?

You don’t sound like it to me. Maybe I’ll report you to Jeff and have you blocked because I simply think you might be illegal.

There is an unlimited supply of unskilled labor around the world. You wish to exploit them by relying on a steady stream of workers who are willing to accept below market wages due to illegal status. You are also willing to exploit taxpayers who subsidize the corporations by bearing health care costs, education costs, “affordable housing” costs, criminal justice costs, welfare benefits for American citizens left out of the labor market, Earned income tax credits, etc.

The “supply” in our free market is American citizens.

No, that's not a free market.

This is all a nice debate but totally irrelevant because you know who employee all these undocumented workers and benefits most from their low wage status? The rich corporate owners that donate heavily to Trump and his friends on the Hill. If they cared about undocumented labor, they’d use e-verify. The love undocumented labor because those folks never file wage complaints, or OSHA complaints or workers comp or unemplietnet claims, or start a union organizing drive. And they are cheaper than robots! These guys also like undocumented workers because they have pools and yards and houses that don’t just clean themselves. They will deport the folks that are in shelters and some random other people just to keep everyone scared and meek, then declare victory.

In addition to the other industries mentioned earlier, your fast food, illegal drugs, and prostitutes are about to cost more.

Why are you surprised? Arlington is a sanctuary county.

I think PP thinks it is unjust that you like to save money through promoting policies that establish a permanent underclass of undocumented workers.

You are wrong. The immense majority of foreigners in the DC area are here legally. I am one of them. Just because someone speaks poor English and looks foreign, doesn’t mean they’re illegal!

There is more MS13 gangs and Venezuelan gangs in Montgomery County than anywhere else in US. Tom Homan is probably starting here and will have anyone arrested for harboring criminals.
