Test optional & App Numbers 2024

What private would have 21 kids who didn't get into their ED and could possibly have a shot at NU? Unless you are out of the area and have a huge graduating class, that seems nuts.

Out private had 1/7 get in ED and 2/24 RD last year. Class of 125 or so. Highly selective Chicago private school. The RD kids had used REA/ED for Ivy or Duke. Then many qualified enough to try for NU RD but didn’t get it.

“Yeah. Thank you for asking that. About half of our students did not submit standardized test scores and about a third of the students we admitted did not submit standardized test scores.”

For Duke enrolled fall 2023 freshmen, 50% submitted SAT, 31% submitted ACT

But you can submit both. So it could be 33% of enrolled freshmen did not submit either, 14% submitted both, 36% submitted SAT only, and 17% submitted ACT only. That would be consistent with both the podcast and the CDS.

+1 I have a copy of the promotion material from my son's visit and it says that 31% of students were admitted last year w/o test scores.

DP. This roughly fits the advice not to submit below the 25th percentile. Most of these applicants will be hooked.

Is it possible for unhooked applicants to get in TO? Yes. That doesn't mean it's easy or common or a good idea to apply TO if the score is decent.

I don't think anyone was implying it was "easy or common or a good idea to apply TO if the score is decent".

This is not true at our private if you are a humanities major…..don’t think you can make blanket statements like this.

Lots of TO success stories of ORM to private T25 last year. However, none were stem or business. All had stellar leadership, ECs and some had national awards.

And you don’t live in the DC area, so you should say that.

Most of the ppl on here are no longer DC....

That isn't true and it isn't helpful to post from other parts of the country without so indicating. The DC area has the highest concentration of high stats kids in the country, outside of MA and NJ. If you are from Chicago or CA, it's a different admissions environment.

Where did the kids end up?

Where did the kids end up?

Can’t say for all but a few I remember are USC, Michigan, Wake Forest, Wisconsin, Georgetown.

NU wants kids who want to come....if you are in Chicago and didn't tour, do the special visits where you sit in on class, they know you are just trophy hunting for the highest ranked school.

Assume the Chicago private with 125 kids is Latin. No one should expect an NU admit in RD these days if you haven't put in a TON of DI and work.
