The fact that so many Americans criminalize such behavior is shocking. Take precautions for your safety and their treatment, yes, but really stop the harassment of the mentally ill.

When your college student is required to live with someone like that, it becomes your concern. it's not harassment to want your own kid to be safe, considering you are paying $16-18k+ for room and board. Sometimes the remaining "safety concerns for your safety" is ensuring they are no longer in the dorms. For your student and 100s of other student's safety as well

It’s not a crime to be mentally ill. The US is packing jails with mentally ill people. It’s horrifying, unsafe for everyone and cruel.

+1

Weird that OP felt the need to post an "update" about this. Creepy.

More like committed to the bit.

If a college does not want that to happen, then they should respond accordingly in a timely manner the FIRST time. Not brush it under the rug, waiting for it to turn to something much worse.

This.

Calling the press AFtER a college refused to take action to keep students safe is DIFFERENT from calling the press BEFORE giving the college a chance to take action.

What has that got to do with calling the press and releasing the boy's name?

How do you know he is mentally ill? Maybe it’s just his kink. So save your crusading for a different thread. It doesn’t apply here.

Anyone with HALF a functioning brain knows that deviant public displays like this ALWAYS stem from mental disorders. Always.

OMG what woke BS. It’s ok to be masturbating in public as a sexual preference. WTH? Are there no manners anymore? No limits? No common sense? Your attitude is what drives people to become Republicans.

DP. "Just his kink"?! Don't try to make this behavior acceptable as "just his kink," like we shouldn't find it gross and invasive. It's also a potential precursor to further sexual acting out.

Where did OP say she gave the local press a name? Any half decent reporter will be able to get his name without OP giving it. That's how news tips work. And unless he's charged with something, the local media likely won't use his name in print. But you'd better believe this story would be of interest, because a college where the campus cops are this bad is a college that's probably unsafe in situations beyond this one. -- former newspaper and magazine reporter

?? She only called the press because the school was utterly failing to act.

No, it is not nor should it be of course. But OP's child has rights as well and should not be punished by another's actions.
