College and University Discussion
So? |

I can’t wait until civil rights catch up for those with mental illness.
The fact that so many Americans criminalize such behavior is shocking. Take precautions for your safety and their treatment, yes, but really stop the harassment of the mentally ill. |
You think fapping off in a dorm common room shouldn't be criminal behavior? |
He committed a sex crime (sexual assault). You want to decriminalize sexual assault?! WTF? |
Not PP, but indecent exposure is not a sexual assault in most jurisdictions. |
Public nudity and public masterbation aren’t sexual assault in “most” jurisdictions? You know the laws of all the jurisdictions? Just stop. You are failing society going down this sick hole. |
|
Unchecked, his behavior could easily escalate. And his illness likely would go untreated.
He was not a candidate for communal living. OP absolutely did the right thing. Now it is up to the public safety and mental health professionals to step in. Don’t blame OP for what follows. |
| I'm a lawyer also and I don't think it's sexual assault if the student did not touch anyone else. I do believe the activity is a violation of public decency/lewd activity law, akin to flashing people. A lesser offense, but within the realm of criminal acts. |
No one talked about arresting him. He was removed from the dorm for sexually harassing people - the female RA and everyone else who walked in on him j3rking off in the place where they live. You must be cool with Louis CK, too. It was just harmless fun, Amrite? https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/11/09/563116374/multiple-women-say-louis-c-k-masturbated-in-front-of-them-new-york-times-reports |
Ok well then as a lawyer you surely know that this conduct triggered the university’s Title IX obligations right? |
| OP, I am glad this situation is resolved and your child is safe; but I find your attitude and seeming glee over what you did to be really gross. You think you’re some gumshoe detective and you got someone from another country sent away. |
Perhaps other privacy rules, but not HIPPA, as most colleges and universities are not covered by HIPAA, so it typically does not apply directly to student roommate situations. FERPA protects the privacy of students' educational records, including some health information handled by campus health centers. However, FERPA does not extend to non-record conversations, so it would not apply to roommate interactions. In the context of roommates, privacy expectations would mostly fall under school housing policies or state privacy laws rather than HIPAA or FERPA. |
Where are you getting glee? What I am feeling is relieved. |
| Who are all these weirdos trying to shame OP that she did something wrong. There are rules of behavior, and this kid clearly was not a candidate for communal living as someone said up above. You can't act that way and not expect consequences. From a distance, we have no idea what was up with this person, and if it's mental health I hope he gets the help he needs, but that help doesn't come at the peaceful expense of the rest of the dorm. Sorry but no. Unable to follow rules? You can't live there. |
They aren't. And honestly, your attempt to equate public nudity with sexual assault is sick. |
