In 7th grade, I knew a girl who was dating a Senior. That could be a 14 yo and a 19 yo. I'm GenX like you and it was scandalous. It demonstrated how messed up a guy had to be to date someone that soon out of elementary school. And the french kissing wasn't about Mila, but about Ashton and Danny placing bets on it re: a 14 yo. |
Bullshit. I'm a Gen X'er and this was creepy as all hell in the early 90s. 14 is an 8th or 9th grader, 19 could be a college sophomore. On what planet is a college sophomore trying to bone an 8th grader normal? It's predatory as hell. I think you must be some PR firm to post some crap like this. |
If you think the bet between two 19 year old men was who would "french kiss" her first I have a bridge to sell you. The bet was clearly who would get in her pants. |
I posted it, and I was in 9th grade at 14 (until end of October) and a senior could have been 19. But let’s say 18, okay? It would not have been shocking for a senior to date a freshman (which is what I meant I was). |
Me again. I would now freak out if one of my kids wanted to date with that age gap at those ages- and my kids would be disgusted by the idea (it has come up as one of their friends as a senior brought a sophomore to the prom, and they all found it weird). I was speaking to how I felt it 1990 (and that I don’t feel I was taken advantage of even on reflection). My guess is that Ashton/Mila at those ages were in mid 1990s. |
I didn’t really have a strong feeling either way about him before, but his support of Danny Masterson told me everything I needed to know. |
When I was in high school in the late 90s, a freshman girl with a senior guy would've been seen as leveling up by the girl in a "wow, she's so mature" kind of way. I was asked out by a junior as a freshman, but turned him down. What I recall was every new class, the older students scouted out the most attractive ones and invited them into their inner circle. |
Right, back in the 90s, a senior and a freshman probably raised some eyebrows but it wasn’t unheard of. But that’s not what happened here. Ashton entered college in August 1996. That same month, Mila turned 13. A year later, on the 70s Show, you have a “never been kissed” 14 year old and a guy who had been to and subsequently dropped out of college. That’s gross. |
I don't think so - he hung out with the guys (Wilmer, etc.) and occasionally helped her with her HS science homework. They didn't start dating until after she was an adult. |
I'm a year and four months older than Ashton and so a child of his generation also. Not everyone was abused. |
Eh, they were both actors…acting. ICYMI: all kinds of weird stuff happens on set. The actors and their parents know this going into it. Plus, I don’t buy the “never been kissed” innocent 14 year old thing. She seemed much more mature than he appeared. Regardless, the two have been married for a long time now. This really isn’t the scandal some are suggesting it is. |
I'm also GenX from suburban NY, and agree that a freshman and senior dating was not a huge deal in the '90's. My mother was not a fan of it, and told me the only reason a much older guy goes for a much younger girl is because a girl his age will see through his BS, so I never dated anyone more than two grades ahead of me (freshman to jr, for example). |
I've never liked Ashton, but if I was a big celeb close to Diddy I'd also be worried he would lie about me! I don't fault him for that at all but I tend to skew paranoid/anxious and he may too. |
Speaking of Wilmer, he is really gross. I can't even look at him. |
Do you really have to ask? It has always been apparent since he was a teen. |
