Do you ask your kids before hugging them?

I have four children 11 and under and I never ask permission to hug them. My parents live nearby and my kids almost throw themselves at them for a hug.

The only reason to do this is if someone in your family isnt safe or cant be trusted. In that case, yes teach your child to protect themselves. But for the rest of us in normal families with safe relationships, no i will not ask for consent before showing affection.

If my kids are upset about something, whether it's me or something that has nothing to do with me, I do ask them if they want to be hugged. When upset, some people don't want to be touched or forced into something like a hug that would feel fake.
