H is becoming obsessed with aliens and it’s freaking me out

My ex did this. I took him to see a respected expert speak, and in the program he mentioned how incredibly unlikely it is to find proof of aliens and why. That worked!
However, it is a sign of a bigger problem: ignorance, mistrust, paranoia, delusions…He latched on to other conspiracy theories and I lost all respect for him. I simply cannot be in a relationship with someone who falls down these rabbit holes.

Agree with the PP and others. There is actually science to back up intelligent life other than our planet. Its almost stupid not to think so if you study the science and math. What is concerning is his comment that “we need to do something about it”. When cults start this type of thinking that can lead to bad things. The two trump would be assassins thought that and we do not need anymore crazy people. Mental health is a real issue. Maybe see if he can see a therapist.

Can we come back to what is meant by "we should do something about it"? Like, do what? Talk about it on the internet? Check and check. What else is there to "do" according to people who think something should be done?

If the answer is "increase humanity's collective focus and funding on making interstellar space travel a reality for our species" then I would say he's living in a total fantasy for entirely terrestrial reasons. If the answer is "arm ourselves because they're coming for us" then I would start understanding this as a mental health emergency rather than a quirky hyperfocus.

OP, it should be comforting for you to know there are other buffoons out there besides your DH that think something unexplained is automatically evidence of the mostly unlikely of circumstances.

As other posters have mentioned, there’s been a lot of credible testimony around the topic. The phenomenon is very real, but, there’s literally nothing obsessing over it will do.

I do think that somewhere the US does know more than the general population on this topic, but they don’t understand it and releasing what’s known would cause chaos.

It seems that all of the “glitch in the matrix” type phenomenon such as near death experiences, ghosts, posessions, aliens, ufos, religion, power of prayer, etc are all likely related and symptomatic of a spiritual collective intelligence.
