How often do you use candles? Best, host gift given?

I light a candle almost every day. I love the scented ones. They make my house smell so good, especially after cooking a stinky meal like fish, Indian food or even frying a steak.

Have you seen the prices of candles? Why so expensive? The pretty smell never lasts. I’d rather be given the $25/$35 dollars in a certificate towards a spa or restaurant. Zero candles in our home. Prefer fresh air to the chemical scent, and would never give as a gift

They're actually bad for the environment so ... practically never. I have one beeswax one that I got in 2023 and have lit exactly once.

1. Go no gifts for adults. No adult needs candles, no adult needs a gift certificate for something they could just buy themselves.

2. Maybe, like me, your SIL lights candle at home a lot and thinks you will like them.

OP sounds like my SIL who insists on bags of presents for adults every single Christmas, even though I tried for years to get her to tone it down. Nope, wouldn't do it; so now I trying to buy her as many consumable items (like candles, hand cream, etc... as possible) rather than just buy gift certificates. Why just exchange money with gift certificates rather than buying nothing?

As the other pp said, please free your SIL and the other adults in your life from buying Christmas gifts for adults.

I love them as a hostess gift but gave one once and got a snarky response by the hostess and never gave one after that. I do not like flowers (they die) so my hierarchy of preferred gifts is plant then candle then food like chocolates.
