How often do you use candles? Best, host gift given?

How many do you have? I have 6 candle jars in various sizes given to me as gifts, I still haven’t used all of them. The extra two I’m given, I will regift.

Have you seen the prices of candles? Why so expensive? The pretty smell never lasts. I’d rather be given the $25/$35 dollars in a certificate towards a spa or restaurant. My sister-in-law never fails, every Christmas a candle… Any suggestions for s comparable gift? I have a dinner party invite this weekend…Tx

I haven't lit a candle other than a birthday cake candle within the last five years.

I always donate or re-gift the ones I've been given.

I never use candles other than the ones on birthday cakes. If I receive one, I regift it.

If you can, make Christmas “no gifts” for adults. It’s so much nicer. Free your sister in law.

We have an excellent chocolatier in our area so I bring a gift assortment of their chocolates. People seem delighted to receive them.

I haven’t used a candle since grad school.

I light candles quite a bit in the fall and winter, when I’m trying to create a cozy, Hygge-type atmosphere inside my house.

Not even a Diptyque?

We light tapers at dinner every night, but don't use any other candles.

I don't like to use them because then I have to remember to extinguish them. I found a bunch when cleaning out a cupboard recently though and have been burning them in the kitchen when everyone is home.

I use them a lot but I'm pretty picky. I really don't recommend giving candles. Years ago someone brought some homemade muffins in a pretty bowl as a host gift. We still use the bowl. Anything edible is always good if the host is laid back. Some hosts though are pretty strict about what they are serving and wouldn't want to put out a different bottle of wine or chocolates or whatever because they've carefully selected what they want to serve. So if you know them and know they'd be ok with chocolate or wine, I'd go with that.

As an aside, we host get togethers frequently. I love putting them together and having people over. I really don't expect or want hostess gifts.

Almost every day in the winter, once a week in summer - I prefer battery or rechargeable ones tho

I had a friend whose house burned down from candles so I rarely use them.

Candles were lit. Family went to Christmas Eve services. Family did not extinguish candles when the left the home. When they returned from church their house was burning down.
