Educated flight out of DC?

Why would I put my family in that kind of danger on a daily basis by living in DC, when I can commute or telework from somewhere safe/sane ?

What danger? 975 carjackings out of over 400,000,000 yearly vehicle trips is such an infinitesimally small chance as to not even be worth thinking about.

But you do you, have fun cowering in the suburbs while people who understand math enjoy the city.

Hi, I live here. In SE. I can tell the city is going back somewhat to the 80’s. Basically a worse version than was around in the last decade where there is just more crime and lawlessness. It sounds like you live in the suburbs with yard signs but have no clue about this city.

Hi, I live here. In Ward 7. I can tell you have no idea what you're talking about because even at its recent peak crime never even came close to the 80's 90's, or even 2000s and has been steadily declining for over a year with no signs of reversing. It sounds like you live on Capitol Hill and are trying to impress people with your "SE" technicality while regurgitating braindead takes from fearmongering racists like Alan Henney.

NP.

Sounds like you two are trying to out-victim each other.

This isn’t a contest.

It’s not even “out victim”. It’s just common fking sense to notice crime has risen. It rose a crazy amount. https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/crime/dc-violent-crime-stats/65-dd6634de-9b66-4209-86c8-e765950f6c5f

And it was because of, sorry to say it, “woke” ass policies that focus on leniency for crime. The USAO not prosecuting. The city council letting people speed and keep their licenses, or shielding criminal records up to age 26 or letting them out early with the “2nd look act” and “youth rehabilitation act”. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that progressive policies with a “holistic” approach, or stupid “restorative justice” instead of swift and strong punishment, and fostering a climate where criminals know they can just get away with things and not go to jail increased crime.

That’s great you live in Ward 7. No one fking cares. I’m sorry you apologize for crime. Have fun self-flagellating.

What is racist about Alan Henney's blog which is pretty well documented and accurate?
Doesn't fix with your ridiculous leftist narrative I am guessing.

So strange how Americans hate their cities. Since cities are really social hubs where people come together for work and culture, it really reflects how much Americans despise each other.

We lived in the city for 20+ years and outlasted many of our neighbors but the crime and homelessness issues got to be too much. It’s the politicians who hate the cities by letting vagrants and criminals overrun them.

+1. A homeless guy with mental problems put up a tent in our residential DC neighborhood. The city refuses to move him. They bring him food and water. He is the decision maker, apparently. The tail is wagging the dog.

"Basically progressive policy be it crime or education increase poor behavior and mediocrity."

=> This is true. It also leads to generational poverty, crime infested, drug infested neighborhoods, sky-high rates of illiteracy and premature death among those living in these broken communities. And these are just some of the reasons why I support progressive policies on crime and education. I love watching generation after generation of the underclass self destruct.

The problem is that you used to be able to watch from afar. Now with DCs housing voucher and sanctuary city policies, the blight comes to your doorstep. Even in formerly “nice” neighborhoods.

Yes progressives find a way to destroy everything.

Bowser has succeeded in spreading crime and disorder “for all.”

It would be helpful if CM Frumin didn’t cheer her on. It’s literally his campaign tag line.

True.

From Washington Business Journal Today:

Washington, DC is a leading market for recent graduates in JLL's newly released Talent Hubs 2024 report. With 63% of local university graduates choosing to stay, DC ranks as the 6th most popular market for new grads in the nation. DC offers a wealth of job opportunities and a vibrant living environment tailored to the post-college lifestyle.

Those damn pesky facts continue to get in the way of another DCUM narrative.

Oh come on!

San Francisco is only partly destroyed. And why is quality-of-life so important anyway?

The per capita murder rate in ward 7 was 10.9X higher than the average for the US in 2023. Even if the crime is not as bad as it was in the 80's and 90's, the crime rate is still unacceptably high. The per capita murder rate for DC as whole is also unacceptably high at around 7x the national average. Most people complaining about crime (in DC) are not fear mongering, they are justifiably upset that DC is failing to protect residents, prevent crime, and sentence violent criminals. The per capita murder rate increased 2.5X from 2013 to 2023.

This report is analyzing metro areas, DC it is not limited to people only in the district. Most of these "DC graduates" do not chose to live in the district. They live in MD or VA instead.
