You go on chemo to ensure any microscopic cells are obliterated so it doesn't metastasize. If you just do surgery (past the point when it's extremely small) you run the risk of it coming back because of tiny bits of disease. If you do chemo that should in theory wipe everything out.

This. And I think it was ovarian cancer she had.

If telling the truth in the announcement about it being a surprise, they weren’t looking for cancer, then I think it was colon cancer. Or at least the surgery started in the colon (perhaps an abscess) and then saw an ovary looking funny.

They are extensions, but they do not come from Sally's.

The hair looked real to me.

I wish she would divulge the type of cancer she had and how they came to discover it. She would save lives.

Agree it’s probably some sort of colon cancer because that’s where they were already looking and the consequences of that surgery are probably why she doesn’t want to talk about it. Also, this is probably reading tea leaves, but the Daily Mail (🫤) has been inundating readers with articles about colon cancer among the young—take that fwiw which may not be much. Anyway, although she could bring welcome publicity to a cancer charity, in the end she owes us no explanation.

Anyway, it’s a little odd that she had the surgery in January but KP stated William missed a funeral in mid-February bc they’d just found out about the cancer. When I had surgery for cancer (twice, different kinds) they did the biopsies while I was still lying unconscious on the operating table. So even if they were they weren’t expecting cancer, why did it take more than a week for the biopsy to come in, this is Catherine POW after all.

No way. I'm betting ovarian or uterine. She had a hysterectomy.

If she had a hysterectomy then they’d take the ovaries as a matter of course (ask me how I know). It would be a keyhole operation for both, and she’d be able to work after a month, although I went back after two weeks. They’d also probably know if they were expecting cancer, via some scrapes, before they did the hysterectomy although that’s not 100% guaranteed. If the biopsy turned up uterine or ovarian cancer they’d want to take some sentinel lymph nodes to look for spreading which, if they weren’t expecting it, would mean a second operation, probably keyhole to get a lymph node, but we haven’t heard anything about that. I’m still guessing colon. In any case I’m still mystified by why it took her private doctors a month to find cancer.

For example, something like tamoxifen won't cause any hair loss at all, or have many other side effects for that matter, which is why it's typically taken for five year.

Tamoxifen is not what people mean when they use the word chemo.

She used the words "preventive chemo." Tamoxifen is exactly what they mean, and others because tamoxifen is for breast cancer recurrence. Anyway, the point being that it's not as devastating as chemo that's directed at metastatic cancer.

Not always. My FIL was on a preventative chemo, not Tamoxifen, for kidney cancer. No hair loss either.

In theory she could go back to work now, but one of the major themes of the video is that she'll only make a few public appearances (Cenotaph and Christmas concert?) for the rest of the year and maybe supervise her staff as they issue more social media. That seems off?

My BIL finished chemo in April. He is still not back to his pre-chemo energy and is still very thin. Nothing off.

She looks beautiful. Glad she is done with chemo.

I’m sorry about your BIL and glad he’s on the road to recovery. But chemo is often harsher than the preventive/adjuvant chemo she had, that’s what we’re discussing.

But PPs point is you don’t bounce back as soon as you’re done. We don’t know Kate’s treatment timeline. With limited information nobody is in a position to judge.
