NP. No, it’s not. 1500 is pretty normal for people who eat healthy food. If you’re eating fast food every day, I can understand how this number would seem low. |
Yes. Add more walk or light cardio. Hang in there! |
Most of the older (age 45+) men and women I met who have maintained their weight have come to terms with the fact that they can't eat 3 meals a day the way they used to. Not 3 big meals anyway. |
Just think of it this way— if you’re a short woman (like I am), 1500/day is actually just to maintain weight! I have to drop to 1200 or so to actually lose. So you’re “lucky” in that way, I guess! It does require a whole rethinking of the “nutrition” we learned as kids, which was frankly a lot of bunk. |
BS, I am 5’6”, 43yo and I am maintaining at 2300. |
I am 5’2” and my maintenance is 1800. Weight training days I need 2200. 1500 is do-able on inactive days, I skip a meal here and there when don’t feel like it. But everyday 1500 for over a month gives me depression. |
I’m 5’8” and 128-130. I eat 1500-1600 calories a day and lift weights, walk, and do yoga. I eat well, mostly lean meats, veggies, and whole grains. No dairy or alcohol. I’m rarely hungry unless I eat junk. I don’t do much cardio, but if I did I’d need to eat more. I’m not skinny but lean and muscular with some curves. |
+1. 5’7”, 44, and I can’t lose if I drop under 1700. |
NP If it was so easy everyone would be thin and fit! Op I would first count every food you eat. Start cutting out the 'easy' foods or drinks first. For example, instead of a grande latte get a tall. Once you know what you eat and when you want to eat you can change your habits. Do you eat when bored? Substitute for something else or get a different snack. This is a lifelong battle so remember not to sweat any 'mishaps' and just move on |
If you're used to eating like a normal person, going to 1500 calories will feel like a huge change. Even tracking and thinking about calories can be really annoying. I recommend drinking tea, coffee, or other low calories warm drinks to suppress hunger until you figure out what works for you. |
Have they diagnosed you with an eating disorder yet? |
Have you figured out that you don’t have to shovel junk food down your gullet at every meal? |
Unless, of course, your metabolism runs at a different rate. Some of us do not feel satiated at 1500 calories, despite eating lean protein and veggies, so it can be challenging for us. I really hate the “It’s not hard…” blanket statements. It CAN be hard for some people — these people always feel hunger, for whatever reason and despite doing the “right” things. |
she's extremely thin because she is burning a huge amounts of calories. Running that amount I can eat whatever I want and drop weight |
Most everything we've been told over the years is wrong, starting with that food pyramid. |
