It is far away

From what? The Equator? The White House? The Nearest Metro? Baltimore? This is a meaningless designation unless your home is the center of the universe.

I don't know what your definition of "predominant" is, but according to US News and World Report, Dematha's student population is:

30.6% White
45.5% Black
12,7% Biracial
11.2% Hispanic

Minorities are 70% of the student population.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but not to their own facts.

Wacky lefties would love to get their white kids into this school. Just look at the demographics! They could fulfill their diversity dreams sending htier kids to DeMatha.

But that’s the viewpoint of many on here. They wouldn’t confess to it, but they do believe that they are at the center of the universe and it all revolves around them.

The mission of DeMatha is pretty clear and does not include serving those who read here on DCUM!

There's a huge vocal and instrumental music program as well that wins national awards regularly. Even if your kid doesn't play an instrument, they have a system in place to get a kid up and going in 9th grade. Lots clubs as well.

Some additional pluses-
1. Learning center is included in tuition. The staff that runs the learning center is phenomenal at working with kids of all abilities.
2. They really seem to get boys. Much of the staff have been there for 20+ years and they don't seem tired of it at all. They really seem to grow a brotherhood and not the brotherhood of obnoxious fraternity brothers.
3. Textbooks were included with tuition. Instrumental and vocal music program try to reduce the out of pocket expenses etc.
4. Strict no cell phone policy

Okay, the admissions people are definitely driving this thread.....

Parent, not admissions staff.

Agree, someone trying to drive up interest. I guess it is that time of year....

Parent, not admissions staff.

Disregard the above post. The white supremacists are just doing what they do.

We live in NW DC and are thinking about DeMatha vs SJC. They have a bus from downtown SS. We love the arts program (visual and performing) and the diversity.

I wonder if they compete more with the Good Counsel crowd because of location.

It’s not really that. Dematha comes up every so often. Other than Gonzaga, most DMV schools under their local Archdiocese aren’t thought of as high most the top Independent schools. It’s the same for good counsel, O’Connell, PVI, Carroll, Ireton, and even St John’s.

The other PP was right. The demographics usually keep DeMatha safely under the DCUM radar. That’s a good thing.

+1

Dematha doesn't need anyone to make it happen. Dematha has been happening for a long, long time.

-Not a Dematha parent, booster or anything whatsoever.

Really you have no stake in Dematha?? Just want to shout from the rooftops how great they are??? Sure.....

Yes, I'm actually a MoCo public schools parent.
Nowhere did I shout how great they are. I said they don't need anyone to make them happen. Dematha has been known for a very long time.
You seem insecure.

Agreed, PP. This troll seems quite insecure. I’m guessing her beloved son wasn’t accepted.

We have many friends who have sent their boys to Dematha and while many of them are athletes, I don’t know anyone who was rejected.

It seems like out of the WCAC schools, Gonzaga is the hardest to gain admission, followed by GC, and SJC. It seems like everyone gets into Dematha and Bishop McNamara.

I haven’t heard many parents brag about getting rejected from anywhere, the only time I hear of it is in an anonymous forum like this one.

DeMatha may be less rejective than these other schools for a variety of reasons, including application volume, class size, mission, etc.

Either way, a school's quality should not be measured by who they exclude, but rather how well they help those that are admitted to succeed. DeMatha does that well, as do the other schools mentioned above.
