There's plenty of qualified kids applying to elite colleges. But if a private school has Rupert Murdoch and Caroline Kennedy as typical parents of students, you're naive to be comparing them to the average MoCo student.
|
Do you know the three students? It's self reported, mostly no one is checking. If they don't request a final transcript, e.g. they matriculated elsewhere, there is no check. Could have misreported. |
They are in Naviance, you're kidding yourself. |
| Kind of settles the Alabama boosterism. 75 applications only 3 attend. Same for Auburn. Similarly ranked western schools are getting much better matriculation numbers. |
DCUM taught me that when the kids are doing Multivariable Calculus in 11th grade, there's just no room in their giant brains to remember pesky algebra. |
Too bad those girls can't get into THE Ohio State University. |
Have you forgotten the much larger state next door to you? Most of the Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, UGA and Vanderbilt current students that I know personally (well, their parents) live in NoVA. Most graduated from a NoVA public but a few went to Gonzaga, Visi, Maret. |
PP again. I realize this is an article about MoCo not NoVA. But it's wrong to conclude that nobody from DCUM actually attends Alabama, etc. based solely on Bethesda Magazine. |
| Umich was brutal this year with a fairly low admit rate and a high yield, seems like a trend if this data is correct |
| The stats are definitely off - for our High School its Johns Hopkins that stands out. The article says that 3 students were accepted and 2 enrolled, but there were at least 4 planning to attend. |
True, I did. Still kind of remarkable that public school students a few miles away have negligible interest. |
| Arguing about supposed new Southern school popularity is a lost cause. |
|
I do think some stats are off. I can't believe that so most Liberty and UMGC applicants across the board were rejected. UMGC rejects no one! That says to me that maybe they counted incomplete apps as rejects?
Also can't believe that only 1 Blair student went to SMCM. Seems off to me. |
| Good lord. There are Ivies where not a single high school student was admitted (including Whitman). This is depressing. |
