yeah the grading policies detailed in the article as well as the massive grade inflation sounded insane. no wonder some aren't prepared for college. |

High schools sometimes report multiple matriculations per student to top schools.
High schools also don't update for anyone past mid-may. No late waitlist movement usually is noted |
I still don’t buy it. According to Naviance, three Whitman students were accepted to Princeton (of 36). That waitlist doesn’t move. Either Naviance or the article is wrong. |
There is definitely incorrect data for one of the high schools that I know very well. I think the article has some issues. |
| I don’t know how they get their data. All I know is last year, Bethesda magazine was missing a ton Whitman data. I would go with Naviance over Bethesda magazine |

So to compare apples to apples, here is last year compared to this year for the USNWR top 20 schools.
Brown, Cal Tech, Dartmouth, and Chicago were all up from last year. Down were Duke, Harvard, Rice, UCLA, Michigan, and Yale. The rest were around the same. Bottom line, despite the horrible track record of MCPS, the top students continue to matriculate to top schools at around the same rate. The school reports those acceptances in its annual matriculation report, but they are not included in Naviance as a data point. |
I don’t understand. |
just say which high school FCS. nobody will know it’s you. |
So true. Meanwhile 3 kids from a small private get in… |
There's an article in today's NY Times about how the most common college that girls at Brearley (fancy NYC private school) matriculate to is Harvard. So much has to do with preferences for legacies and big donors. |
So about 170 kids go to top school out of…? I didnt count michigan, ND, cornell |
Or maybe it has to do with girls from Bradley are known to be prepared for Harvard level work. In the meantime kids in MoCo are given As for effort. Sick of the hate on this board for private schools. Your public schools are failing your children and overinflating parents egos |
| Can someone post Naviance data for one of the Ws so we can compare to this data? |
Excuse me — that’s “The Brearley School”. My college roommate went there. You can’t forget the article — I think they charge extra for that. |
