He has no symptoms, we only tested because a grandparent he'd visited recently was hospitalized with Covid. I've tested daily and am still negative, so I'm not too worried about him spreading Covid in school.

Why bother testing in the first place? Kid had no symptoms and testing positive didn’t change anything. Why bother?

FTR we don’t test at all so I’m not flaming you just curious why you bothered?

I have the same question. Why did you test when it has no impact on your behavior?

This. We only ever test one of our kids (only if they have symptoms) because they are truly immunocompromised and do alter our course of action if they have it.

this makes no sense. we also have an immunocompromised family member and we test everyone who comes down with the sniffles cuz we need to isolate them away from the vulnerable one to protect her. why don't you do this too PP?

The only reason to test is so they can get paxlovid if they have it (kid is 19). They're going to be exposed every day regardless.

You don't see the difference between a potential exposure and an actual close exposure in your own household? Okaaay.

You do realize he can be spreading it without you personally getting it, right?

She doesn't care, sadly.

Just cuz you're tired of it doesn't mean it went away. Some of us are trying to live our lives, and it's much easier to do that if you are not actively trying to spread illness.

And some of us are trying to live our lives which is much easier when we’re not sticking swabs up our nose and missing school/work for every sniffle.

Thanks for spreading your germs to the rest of us. Willing to bet you dose up your kid with tylenol to get that fever down before sending them to school. Will they get another kid or the teacher sick? Probably, but you DGAF. Gotta live your life, amirite?

24 hours fever/vomit/diarrhea free basically. It was like this before COVID and people somehow continued to go on with life.

Also many viruses are contagious before symptoms appear and the hypothetical COVID positive kid without symptoms is likely not even testing. We aren’t going back to masking kids just in case they become sick or doing surveillance testing. If you’re worried, you are free to use a quality N95.

Sure, and you're probably also triggered by other people wearing masks. Can't win.

Nope. I literally DGAF if someone wants to wear a mask. It doesn’t affect me at all. I support people making that choice for their bodies. How self centered do you have to be to think everyone is triggered by your mask?

I'm responding to the crazies on here who literally show they are triggered by a mask.

Ok but you literally responded to my post by claiming “sure” and accusing me of being triggered by masks. It’s such a knee jerk reaction, but the reality these days is that the majority of people have resumed pre-COVID life and they aren’t crazy anti makers. We took precautions during the pandemic. My household is vaxxed and has gotten boosters. I don’t even blink if someone is out in a mask. And also we are not testing for COVID and are back to following the normal school illness policy like we did pre 2020.

PP’s kid is asymptomatic. He isn’t coughing or fever-ish. According to APS policy he is allowed to attend school (and remember attendance is tracked and by HS missing course loads matters more than for younger kids). If he hadn’t happened to test he’d be in school and no one would have any clue he was positive and I guarantee you there are a number of other kids with no/very mild symptoms at school who have no idea they have it.

PP keeping her healthy kid home from school because an incidental diagnosis (and I’m guessing viral load is pretty low if he isn’t symptomatic) is not going to have any meaningful impact on the spread of an endemic virus in a crowded school environment. I get you’re angry this virus exists and it sucks to get sick, but getting angry at people for not upending their lives around this virus is really misplaced.

I would not send my unmasked kid to school while testing positive for Covid or flu, even with no symptoms. Doing otherwise seems rude and disrespectful. I wouldn’t randomly test, but if testing happened for one reason or another, I would mask the kid or keep the kid home. To each their own, I guess. I don’t see how wearing a mask upends lives.

because masks that all the crunchies are wearing don't help?

I can't be angry that PP is not following APS rules by sending her unmasked COVID positive kid to school?

If you're not testing for Covid when you have Covid like symptoms and are going out and about then you are willfully spreading illness and you don't care about others.

The last time I took a Covid test was January of 2021, after some of our New Year's party guests came down with Covid. I realized after that, tests were pointless. If you're sick, stay home until you're better. Once we stopped testing, the pandemic was essentially over for us.

What's wrong with wearing a mask (more so if you're tested positive)? So what if you get people asking questions? Any sane person would appreciate your consideration for others and not judge you negatively.

+1.

At least someone here realized how pointless it all is...
