That’s clearly vandalism and especially doesn’t belong on an elementary school sign but I think MCPD are just wrong in calling it anti-semitic, and it doesn’t help anyone to conflate anti-Israel sentiments with anti-semitic sentiments.

It is also, sadly, a true statement.

Not sure how being anti an entire country and its population is not problematic. Who does "Israel" refer to? Bibi? Jews? The Israeli people? Because we were told not to conflate civilians with their leadership on the Palestinian side. Folks were labeled Islamophobic if they did that. What's good for the goose....

No one said it wasn't problematic. But it's much more acceptable to criticize the actions of a government than to discriminate against a culture and religion. The former implies that the people of Israel may not necessarily agree with their leader, and that the leader is wrong. The latter implies a general contempt for an entire way of life and an entire population. Surely you can appreciate the vast difference?

Also, some of us are really tired of being labeled anti-Semites every time we criticize the genocidal actions of that horrible Netanyahu and his far-right cronies, as well as the illegal land-grabs perpetrated for decades by a deluded group of settlers. There are Jews who do not want any of this, and who hate that Palestinians are being massacred like this, for God's sake. This has nothing to do with respect for the Jews as a people. Goodness knows they're victims too.

ffs. Spray painting “Israel rapes children” on an elementary school where Jewish children attend is an antisemitic terror tactic.

LOL - since when is graffiti a terror attack?? I think you need to brush up on your definitions, snowflake.

The good news is - the world is waking up to these false accusations of antisemitism that are used to gaslight supporters of human rights for Palestinians and to use as an excuse and cover to commit a genocide.

It’s actually sad because now real antisemitism is not going to be taken seriously anymore. The entire meaning of it has been cheapened by drama queens calling graffiti a terror attack. Deflection at its finest.

It’s just kind of hilarious to see supposed progressives defending the indefensible here, when for YEARS we were lectured that the most minimal type of language was worthy of cancellation.

For real. For years, progressives have been lecturing everyone about micro aggressions. But spray painting vile slogans on elementary schools is fine. It's all very clarifying. We all know what progressives are all about now.

It's anti-Israel. Not anti-Semitic. Also, it's true. Also it's entirely inappropriate on any building, especially next to the 2 preschools and 1 elementary school on that block!

It is only appropriate on the wall of the Israeli Embassy.

It is both, its not appropriate anywhere and because you think its ok, what does that make you?

She didn't say it's ok, she said it's vandalism.... and it's not anti-semitic, nor is it a lie.

But she never said it was okay.

“israel” does not “rape children.” it’s an antisemitic blood libel intended to terrorize the Jewish children attending Bethesda elementary school.

This.

Israel investigates and punishes rapists. Palestine celebrates theirs and parades the victims through the streets. It blows my mind how Palestinian rape is apparently justified resistance, whereas Israeli rape is justification for an entire country to be annihilated.

I see the trolls are out spreading bad faith arguments and misinformation.

Absolutely no one in this thread said this was “ok”. The only disagreement seems to be about whether it is a factually accurate statement (which seems to me indisputable but some posters either aren’t following the news or are taking the position that actions by Israeli soldiers shouldn’t be attributed to the Israeli state) and whether it is a “terror attack” against Jewish children (which posters assert as self evident fact but doesn’t seem that way to me).

Did you see the video when they tried to arrest some of the rapist soldiers and the settlers and right wing politicians attacked the military police to prevent the arrests? And that was only the tip of the iceberg.

It’s factually accurate that “Israel” rapes children? And you think the intention was just a friendly educational text for the kids at Bethesda elementary?

You sure as F better never, ever open your lips to talk about diversity, microaggressions, “harms,” and all that.

Meanwhile, across the globe in a faraway place called Bethesda, Maryland, people hate Jews so much they'll spread perverted lies in order to intimidate Jewish elementary school children...and then claim "Oh, I'm just critical of Israel's policies". No, no one is "critical" of Israel because they don't like the color Blue or the letter I. It's because while the entire, giant Middle East is now 99.5% Jew-Free, tiny Israel is the only place left where they're allowed to live.

.

There is literally video of Israeli soldiers raping Palestinians in Sde Teiman, and credible allegations of rape using heated metal rods. That place is Abu Ghraib or worse and no decent person or country would deny it.

And stop with the “any criticism of Israel is anti-semitism”. You can’t expect to torture or starve people and then dodge accountability by waving the flag of anti-semitism or whataboutism.

Probably bored teens - school is still out this week.

This is so infuriating. “Must have missed it”???? Obviously you missed it, it clear as day happened.

Also bored teens don’t spontaneously turn into criminals. Do you have any evidence to support this claim? Or is it just a way of saying this isn’t a big deal, no one meant it, it’s just kids being kids and all kids can be criminals if you give them enough free time? Don’t minimize crime or insult kids this way.

Bored teens commit crimes all the time. Drive fast, drink alcohol, do drugs, shoplift, spray paint things

I have teens and this isn’t the sort of thing bored teens spray paint. Most of what they spray paint is nonsense understood only by other teens.
