Antisemitic vandalism at Bethesda Elementary

That’s clearly vandalism and especially doesn’t belong on an elementary school sign but I think MCPD are just wrong in calling it anti-semitic, and it doesn’t help anyone to conflate anti-Israel sentiments with anti-semitic sentiments.

It is also, sadly, a true statement.

It's anti-Israel. Not anti-Semitic. Also, it's true. Also it's entirely inappropriate on any building, especially next to the 2 preschools and 1 elementary school on that block!

It is only appropriate on the wall of the Israeli Embassy.

It is both, its not appropriate anywhere and because you think its ok, what does that make you?

Not sure how being anti an entire country and its population is not problematic. Who does "Israel" refer to? Bibi? Jews? The Israeli people? Because we were told not to conflate civilians with their leadership on the Palestinian side. Folks were labeled Islamophobic if they did that. What's good for the goose....

No one said it wasn't problematic. But it's much more acceptable to criticize the actions of a government than to discriminate against a culture and religion. The former implies that the people of Israel may not necessarily agree with their leader, and that the leader is wrong. The latter implies a general contempt for an entire way of life and an entire population. Surely you can appreciate the vast difference?

Also, some of us are really tired of being labeled anti-Semites every time we criticize the genocidal actions of that horrible Netanyahu and his far-right cronies, as well as the illegal land-grabs perpetrated for decades by a deluded group of settlers. There are Jews who do not want any of this, and who hate that Palestinians are being massacred like this, for God's sake. This has nothing to do with respect for the Jews as a people. Goodness knows they're victims too.

I did not label you. You sound angry.

I am angry, your criticism was implied. There have been too many threads on DCUM abusing posters for not being rah-rah supporters of Israel, and immediately labeling them as anti-Semites. Students have been punished for protesting. University leaders have been pushed out. While the rest of the world looks on aghast and wonders why America supports the massacre of 30K Gaza civilians and counting. We continue to ship them heavy weaponry even now. It's repulsive.

They should have not messed with Israel and keep messing with them. Jews in the US have no control or influence over what Isreal does so to blame them is not ok. You are repulsive to support any killing.

It’s really amazing you could write that post with no self-awareness. Go back and reread it and think about how you got here. I know it’s not easy but it’s necessary, unless you are just trolling

ffs. Spray painting “Israel rapes children” on an elementary school where Jewish children attend is an antisemitic terror tactic.

It’s awful to post any political vandalism at an elementary! But arguments like the above are ridiculous.

Is ridiculous to say that spraypainting “Israel rapes children” on the elementary school where many Jewish children goes is terrorizing? What impact do you think that would have?

First, Israel isn’t raping Jewish children. Second any kid old enough to understand rape is old enough to understand this isn’t a threat to them.

No one is saying it’s not awful, criminal and upsetting and traumatic for someone to have vandalized the school with violent descriptions-the issue is whether saying a state actor committed atrocities is necessarily antisemitism. (I do agree it would clearly be antisemitism if a synagogue or Jewish day school was targeted.)

How far the discourse has come from when making tacos could be a racial attack! (Plenty of Jewish kids at Bethesda elem. Why do you think it was targeted? Even if it wasn’t targeted what’s the difference?)

The state of Israel is guilty of those crimes through the IDF, and the apparent unwillingness to take any responsibility.

You can say being anti an entire country is “problematic” but it still isn’t anti-semitism.

Most jews I know aren't thrilled about Israel's actions these days either, but that doesn't make them anti-semItic.

LOL - since when is graffiti a terror attack?? I think you need to brush up on your definitions, snowflake.

The good news is - the world is waking up to these false accusations of antisemitism that are used to gaslight supporters of human rights for Palestinians and to use as an excuse and cover to commit a genocide.

It’s actually sad because now real antisemitism is not going to be taken seriously anymore. The entire meaning of it has been cheapened by drama queens calling graffiti a terror attack. Deflection at its finest.

But she never said it was okay.

Well, death happens in war. Even death of innocents. Starvation happens too when aid can’t get to a region that is under site or blocked due to actions of war.
These are unfortunate and sometimes unavoidable collateral damages of war.

But rape shouldn’t be part of that. Ever.

So if someone were to spray paint “America rapes men, women and children”—as an American, I would be alarmed if I found that this were true, and outraged by the insinuation that “America” condones such an act that was perpetrated by a couple of psychopath soldiers.

It’s just kind of hilarious to see supposed progressives defending the indefensible here, when for YEARS we were lectured that the most minimal type of language was worthy of cancellation.

“israel” does not “rape children.” it’s an antisemitic blood libel intended to terrorize the Jewish children attending Bethesda elementary school.
Anonymous
There are multiple examples of Palestinians and their supporters raping Israelis on Oct 7th, but no similar examples of an Israeli raping a Palestinian. Meanwhile, across the globe in a faraway place called Bethesda, Maryland, people hate Jews so much they'll spread perverted lies in order to intimidate Jewish elementary school children...and then claim "Oh, I'm just critical of Israel's policies". No, no one is "critical" of Israel because they don't like the color Blue or the letter I. It's because while the entire, giant Middle East is now 99.5% Jew-Free, tiny Israel is the only place left where they're allowed to live.

Go live in "Palestine" where you can join them in throwing gay people off of buildings.
