Cosco cakes are wonderful but they tend to be large and, at $200, I don't think this is inexpensive. Giant also has good cakes. How many people at the christening because Whole Foods has delicious cakes that run around $30.99 to $35.00 for average-size cake.

I meant $30.00 to $35.00.

?? $200 for a Costco cake? The only ones I've ever seen are whole sheet cakes that cost about $17, even if you want it customized. Of course, I cannot stand their cakes anymore. They eliminated all options but chocolate cake/chocolate buttercream frosting or white cake/white buttercream frosting a few years back. Yuck! They used to have whipped cream or cream cheese frosting with other filling options or carrotcake a few years ago. No more.

Cant believe that Shoppers only has one vote so far! Shoppers cake is the best! And they have a whipped cream frosting that's not too sweet. Yummy!

For a small gathering, bake a cake. It's not hard and costs very little.

Check out the French Bread Company in Tysons. I may not have the name exactly right. They supply top restaurants but they're a wholesaler. Its who I used for my wedding and the cake was excellent.

Really? I grew up eating tons of Entenmann's and I can't stand it now. It's all so dry.

I vote for Harris Teeter!

Safeway. I found ours by taste testing a $2 square. The winner [ok, I admit it was our one and only taster]: double layer white cake with whipped cream topping, custard filling, fresh strawberries on top. 8 inch round was only $15.
