Generally true, but depends on where you are in Oakton or Vienna. Plenty of 1/3 (or smaller) and 1/2 acre lots in Oakton and acre lots in Vienna. The larger lots in Vienna aren't in the town, but in the areas north and west to the town. Also, it's Maple Avenue, not Maple Street. It can be awfully bad at times, but the people who often seem to be most frustrated by it are folks who travel on 123 to get to Oakton or Fairfax and don't know the back routes to avoid sitting in Maple Avenue traffic. |

| When you live in Vienna, you learn to work around the traffic. I can get anywhere in Vienna in 6 minutes from my Vienna house. And I can be at work in 20 minutes. |
I'm glad I live in Oakton, too. All H**L is going to break loose when the metro goes up in Tyson's and Rt.123 (Maple Ave.) in Vienna will be a disaster. I agree though, that some of the neighborhoods are nice in Vienna, but the prices have gone up so much it's ridiculous. |
| The prices are reflective of how much people value the sense of community, good schools and good commutes in the area. And I'll be able to walk to the metro when the new line is done. |

| I'm the DC resident that made the "suburbs suck" comment. Looking back I realize that it wasn't the nicest thing to say. Now of course you can find large houses in DC but your budget will have to be higher than similar size houses in Vienna. However for about $800k you can get a relatively nice house in the JKLM district. There, that was better. I understand that living in the City isn't for everyone. |
| You might be able to buy a house for 800 in the jklm region, but your taxes will be a lot higher, and you would probably have to budget for private schools (another 1000 to 2000 per month). Basically, from what I see, the additional taxes and tuition for me would be greater than my mortgage (though from 1999) in vienna |
| We've been through this a million times. The taxes while higher are not A LOT higher, and with no car taxes, taxes on food or medicine etc studies show that while you do pay more it's not a back breaking increase. Plus if you're earning above $300k none of this is really a big issue. |

Not necessarily. If someone has a job that requires long hours to begin with, two hours or more commuting back and forth to Vienna could be far less appealing that living somewhere else. |

Is it so hard to believe that many people who live in Vienna work in Tysons (5-10 minutes away), Reston (5-15 minutes away), Merrifield (5-10 minutes away) or Fairfax City (10-20 minutes away)? |
