| Spending on what?? Definitely not teachers or tech. |
| Meanwhile, they kick out Boy Scouts, as if THAT were the source of all the problems. |
| More cryptic comments. Could people who say the Rector is responsible for high levels of faculty and staff turnover please explain what he's doing wrong that's causing churn? |
Great question. SPECIFICS. The real cause of the churn is all the covid money that poured into local public schools, which has resulted in a much higher demand for teachers, increased pay, etc. Catholic schools can’t compete. Hopefully that money dries up soon. |
If the pastor is spending money wildly but not spending it on items that directly impact instruction, how do think the teachers might feel? Perhaps a bit put out? Maybe feeling unsupported and then they leave? That seems like a direct connection. A large construction project happened at the school but my child reported there was a large leak in a hallway after a rainstorm. Also came home from school overheated and reported the AC didn’t work at the end of the school year. If the pastor approved expenses that might not be beautiful to look at, but practical in nature like fixing the roof and upgrading AC, that might make a positive impact with teacher retention. Which again is an example of a direct connection to the pastor and principal who approve spending and budgeting for the school. |
| If teachers want to leave and go work at a public school for a bit more pay, I say good luck. Have fun. |
Your reaction is to demonize faith-filled Catholic school teachers and tell them to leave their calling because someone on DCUM pointed out the Pastor overspends on items not related to educating students? I’m guessing you don’t have students currently at the school? |
| The principal just seems weak. I can't put my finger on it exactly and it won't help all the posters looking for specifics. He seems easily controlled by the rector, unable to manage teachers and does not seem to have a full hold on what is happening in the school. For all the many responsibilities that a Catholic school principal has he seems -- at best -- average at all of them and great at none. |
This reads like someone in the school or church office is in their feelings. |
| Still don’t know what’s wrong with the middle school. Amazing. |
| Did all the 8th graders get into their high school of choice? If so, what’s the problem? |
no |
Why not? |
because there aren't enough seats for every kid coming from a parochial k-8 to attend the catholic high school of their choice let alone independent high schools |
+1 Plus sometimes the "school of choice" is not a fit. i.e., Gonzaga might be the first choice for a C student from St. Mary's, but odds are they will not be admitted. |
