NP. Good for her! I don't follow celebs, but this pleases me. As for those complaining about celebs getting a thumb on the scale, this is nothing new and doesn't affect your kid. The numbers are miniscule. |
Their parents' fame is an asset to the college. There would be no need to buy their way in. |
Yes, so few normals get in because they are not athletes, legacy, donor, full pay, or child of staff/faculty. The funny thing is that most students are ALDC, yet we all think HYSP is taking the tippy top. At my kid’s school, those who got into HYSP were legacy and full pay. Private schools that accept students with legacy parents have a leg up and then can take credit and say, “Our students got into HYSP.” But, really, the legacy aspect helped that more than anyone cares to say. Of course, the students are smart and have good grades. But a lot of kids have same or better stats. ALDC for the win. My friend’s kid was accepted by T20 on her own merit (with hooks) and said she was shocked at how many of her classmates were not that smart and were there for legacy or athletic reasons. Meanwhile, she busted her rear to get there. She had a full pay / geographic hook though. |
Full pay is not a hook. Everyone I know is full pay. |
| “Her own merit (with hooks)”? So…hooked, not purely on merit. |
| So, should the celeb hook not exist? I don't understand the complaining here. |
“On her own merit, with hooks” |
Of course it shouldn’t. |
Brook Shields kid to Wake forest... a year or so ago. |
Witherspoons daughter dropped out after 1 yr |
Lol...my Pittsburgh-born husband and I agreed with you, and then we realized that OH and PA are literally connected...so there's that.

First of all, she goes to Marlborough, not Harvard. And she was a National Merit semifinalist. That being said, I’m sure the celebrity helps. |
It isn’t the fame colleges want, it’s the potential donations. |
THIS! |
+1 Jodi Foster was always known to be brilliant. Pretty sure Brooke Shields was too. |
