I know, I know it is off topic, but I like to give the credit where it was due. It was a MPD officer who was seriously injured in the shooting, not secret service. The MPD officer was retired on disability as a result of the shooting and the secret service paid to retrofit his home in PG County for handicap accessibilty. OK back to the gang topic. |

Perhaps you've heard of Timothy McVeigh? I believe he was a White Anglo Saxon Protestant. There was also, oh, Ted Bundy. Now the DC Sniper wasn't white, but he wasn't an illegal alien gang member either. Just an american. Who was the guy who shot up the holocaust museum? That's right, just a good ole boy from Glen Burnie or some other redneck place. I'll stop talking out of my ass now. |

Most El Salvadorans are here legally, as a result of the Reagan-era policies toward El Salvador. They are considered political refugees. |

Those joining (or recruits) MS-13 are the most vulnerable members of their community. If you're poor but come from a strong, stable family life, you're less likely to want to form a "family" with any gang. These groups offer them some form of protection, even though they've basically agreed to a life of violent crime.
So although these members have street smarts, they're uneducated (many illiterate) and have no morals b/c they have no strong family ties. So educators who claim that their MS-13 students don't really bother them should still be on their toes. If you piss off one, you piss off an entire group. They are dangerous. Many lay low in school b/c it's where they do their recruiting and dealing. However, outside of school is when they're violent, which means if they know where you live, you're not safe. So no matter how tough these teachers think they are, they're not tougher than a Mara Salvatrucha member. - teacher who has also taught quite a few members |

In a sad way its are own falt ms started so they could protect the other agents ppl who hated Mexicans bc they Wer Mexican they are vilont bc over half of them grew up during a civil war I'm not defending them just try to see it from there eyes would you kill to feed you kid

what's not working is the fact that DC offers many services to illegal immigrants (thus becoming a mecca)coupled with a refusal to participate in any reporting of illegal immigrant criminal activity to the federal government (thus missing the opportunity to weed out the misfits among the illegal immigrants before they commit acts like shooting up corners in Mt. Pleasant). But we can all feel good that illegal immigrants aren't scared 'to talk' to police which I guess is the point of our city council's policy of non-cooperation/sanctuary. |

| I should add that most of these MS members are probably American citizens due to their anchor baby status. While their hardworking parents have been busy cleaning offices and working construction, their kids have entirely missed the point of the example their parents provide. Coupled with our current culture of low expectations/victim mentality for inner city youth, these kids feel entitled to ride roughshod over basic civil codes. |

I agree that MS-13 members can do horrible things and it is certainly important to be aware that gang members are out there, but it is highly unlikely OP will be a victim of their attacks. Yes, the Leesburg couple who were attacked was an awful story, but it is certainly not a common one around here - especially in low crime areas like Arlington.
I think one attack is one attack too many. When police come across these gangs they should shoot to kill. |

Do yourself a favor and take an ESL language course that also teaches spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Being poor is neither justification, nor explanation, for rape, murder, and other violent crimes. |
