Having tags go up in your area is never a great sign. OP, I'd put in a call you your local precinct and ask if there is a contact for gang issues there. He or she is the best source on gang activity in your area and precautions to be aware of.

I can't comment on Friday, but I can say that they brutalized a Leesburg couple a year ago. They were out on a morning walk, and beat the husband to death, all 5 raped the wife, beat her and left her for dead. She spent months in the hospital. They were out trolling a suburban community looking for someone to rape and kill, unfortunately this grandma and grandpa were in their crosshairs.

Gang violence by MS13 and other such scumbags are very real and very dangerous.

OP, if you are worried I would call Frank Wolf's office and talk to his person who is the liason to the Gang Task Force and see if the rumors are based on any fact. He is very involved in this topic and takes it seriously. I have even complained to his office when I've seen MS13 grafitti in my neighborhood and he has gotten the right people at VDOT on it within 24hrs cleaning it up.

Actually, the attack on that couple had nothing to do with MS-13 or any other gang.

Yes, I totally agree that MS-13 is dangerous, but [b]in general the violence that they commit is against other gangs, NOT just random people walking out on the street. Of course it is important to take precautions, but it would be very unlikely for something to happen right out in the blue in the middle of Pentagon City.

What you said is not entirely true. The article said that the attack was not connected to a gang initiation. But it is well known that the four people who were arrested were gang members. The police never released the name of the gang to which they belonged.

Well known? Please produce where you found this information. If it was gang affiliated, it certainly wasn't MS13. The men who were arrested certainly don't have Central American last names.

Actually, they were black and hispanic. It was not a gang hit, but it was 4 gang members getting together and brutally killing a man and attempting to kill his wife.

I have inside scoop on this attack and what happened to them would make your skin crawl. The story of what happened to the wife is the most heinous thing I have ever heard of. She spent months in the hospital and to say the very least, will never be the same again. For good reason the death penalty is on the table for this one.

Yes, or just M. or just 13 or Mara Salvatrucha written out. They also draw the hand symbol that looks like devil's horns a lot. They also wear blue almost all the time. This how we identify many of the gang members in our school - they will draw all over their papers with words that indicate they are in a gang.

There have been cases of mistaken identity, stray bullet injuries, and deaths, from WASP Americans shooting each other. You are much more likely to die from a family member killing you or a neighbor than something as exotic as an El Salvadoran gang member's Friday the 13th stray bullet.

It isn't racist to enforce laws, it is racist to make laws that target specific ethnic groups. Why not make laws that make it more difficult for illegal immigrants to make a living here? If they can't get a drivers license, open a bank account, get a social security card, rent a house/apartment, get cell phones, credit cards, or get work . . . . they won't come. Oh, but that is too much trouble for the banks. Way too much trouble for land lords. And too much trouble for small businesses and employers!

Umm, if safety is a priority of yours, then Columbia Heights and Adams Morgan should not be at the top of your list of desireable neighborhoods. Not too hard to find safer places to live (and I say this as a former Adams Morgan resident).
