AP Tests this week, how are we feeling?

My sophomore took 4 AP classes but is only sitting for 3 AP tests. I'm nervous for her because she has not really studied outside of class that I know of. She seems to feel she will do fine. Time will tell.

That will surely motivate teachers to go work at struggling schools with struggling students.

DC pays waay more than "your rich" nova--not sure what you are trying to say?

My junior is taking her first AP exam this week and another one next week (independent school so not the plethora of AP classes public schools offer). She is thinking about applying to schools in the UK so these scores, plus the predictions for next year's AP exams, would substitute for A-levels. She has been studying noticeably longer/harder -- and hopefully also smarter -- for the last few weeks and seems pretty stressed.

My son thought it was not bad. He said as soon as he opened it and saw Shay's Rebellion, he felt good. The teacher spent a lot of time on that & the Commerce Clause, and both were on the test. He is more of a "4" student than a "5" student, but for his college all he needs is a 4 to get credit for this one.

Four more to go!

My kid also said it wasn’t bad. It was their first AP. Two more to go next week.

My junior will be lucky to get a 3 on any of the tests, as he has done zero prep due to other commitments.

My son is taking 4 AP test/classes this year after taking 3 AP classes and 2 AP tests in his junior year.

He did prep for his tests today and tomorrow outside of the class. He’ll prep for about a day outside of class before the third one and probably half a day of prep before the fourth one.

I hope he gets all 4s and 5s but we will see. He did a practice test for today’s test and got a 5 so hopefully…

His college does give credit for 4s and 5s so this would make a material difference in his college experience.

My sophomore goes to a private school that has no AP classes but has been studying on their own for 3 APs, including APUSH.

Let’s see how it goes.

It matters if the college allows the kid to skip an intro class if they get a good score on the exam. My senior cancelled all his AP exams except those.

My kid gets an F in the class if they don’t take the AP test. Your school lets them skip the actual AP test?

Many public schools do not require taking the actual AP test. Many private schools require the AP test but handle it different ways. DC’s private school removes the AP designation from the transcript if the student doesn’t take the AP test, but they don’t fail.

We’re at a non-NOVA large public HS. Technically, the exams are “optional” but taking the AP Exam usually gets one exempted from the teacher’s final which, rumor has it, is invariably more difficult than the AP.

Our sophomore is taking first AP tomorrow. Has studied outside of class. Needs a 3+ to get the DE credit needed for their program. Luckily, there are alternatives if that doesn’t work out but that hasn’t changed the “stress” level.

My sophomore is taking his first AP this week. He seems confident. He has had 4 hours of tutoring for the test (once a week for a month). He is doing fine in the class, but it was really just to get him reviewing the material and preparing. If it was up to him, he would have started studying the night before the test.

You mean with the help of an expensive tutor? Same here.

Our school is similar— you take the AP or the teacher’s final. However, our school pays for the AP exam and needs to recommend you to take it. If they don’t recommend you, you can pay to take it. Not sure if a kid in this situation also has to take the final.

Our school also gives kids a preliminary final grade in June and adjusts it later to reflect their AP score.

My kid tried the expensive tutor thing one year and it was a waste. Kid did much better with self-study.
