Why is this election any different?

From my standpoint, even if the worst happens, Kamala is going to have a decent set of competent people around her running the agencies and in the cabinet. I also think she is way smarter than anyone is giving her credit for. She was AG of California. She was a Senator. Personally, I think much of the criticism stems from misogyny.

On the other hand, I am scared of who Trump will have around him. Steven Miller, Steve Bannon, Seb Gorka, Roger Stone, as well as Trump sycophants whose only qualification is that they believe the 2020 election was stolen.

Have none of you been listening when one by one the people like Miley, McMaster, Mark Esper, John Bolton? There are others but those are off the top of my head.

Someone please explain it to me because I don’t get it.

REPORTER: "Madam Vice President, Hamas says it accepted a ceasefire deal. Your reaction?"

I agree completely. I get not loving her, but I don’t understand the hatred. She strikes me as a normal bland politician - maybe not my first choice but certainly not concerning or risky in any real way.

In addition to the sexism and racism - I think it's that she comes across as a little weird in public and also as not very authentic.

I remember hearing her on NPR when she was still in the primary, and she just did a bad job answering fairly easy questions. We've all heard her being just sort of off when it's her turn to speak. She laughs at weird times.

Also you get the sense that she has some principles - she's a Dem; she hews to Dem principles - but that she's a little up for grabs when it comes to what she'll stand for at any given time. Not that her opinions evolve, as all ours do if we're aware and intelligent, but that she's got her thumb in the wind, to an extent. That's not generally endearing.

And, sexism and racism.

Voting Trump and straight GOP ticket to stop this from happening!

Well said!

Me too! Must stop the threat to democracy that is Joe Biden!!

A vote for Trump or Biden is a vote to continue the deterioration of our country. What is wrong with you people? You can't see the forest for the trees.

Really? How? Specify what the GOP is saying that would "end the republic as we know it."

See "project2025" and Trump's actual words in his speeches.

The worst all traitors? Not just a traitor in uniform but a GO. A stain on America and its military. So shameful.

Trump's personality and ideology - he is a nightmare but the GOP (right wing) has already established itself, with or without Trump. Biden is a joke. He is too old. Period. To be in a position as powerful as POTUS. It's not just about age, it's about Biden. He is not in his right mind nor physically capable of the responsibilities. So the idea of Biden being "best case scenario" is totally illogical.

We have 2 fools, neither of which have the capacity for this position. The thing about the other candidates is that while you may like/not like them politically, you can't suggest they were physically and mentally unable to perform the job. In the past, it has always been about choice. This time around, there is no choice!!! They are both totally unfit.

They are not the same no matter how much you want to claim otherwise. That you don't see it or don't want to see it is why our republic is likely to fail.

DP - option of not turning out to vote for either fool! Force a conversation about why politics is sucking across the board for both parties - all parties! Force the powers to be to recognize the Americans are sick of how we are sliding into the abyss as a country. Admit that we have broken parts - we have shit that needs to be fixed or at least given a second look to prioritize for fixing. We have hard conversations to raise and we should not continue on the status quo path.

Every second of every life is consequential? Why dramatize whatever election we happen to be facing as THE ONE? Is it because for first time we have two equally bad choices?

The choices aren't "equally" bad but it is the first time in our history we don't have at least one major party candidate that most can agree is fit to lead the country for the duration of the term they are seeking. For this reason, this election does present us with the two weakest major party candidates in American history. Acknowledging this fact and demanding better from our two failing major political parties is the first crucial step in recovery by 2028.

We can demand better, but polling and other metrics suggest that Biden is the only democrat who can beat Trump. So that is our choice, an old Biden or an authoritarian.

In 2028, the country will have two open primaries where ideas and young blood will have a chance, but for right now, even traditional conservatives are voting for Biden because they know what is at stake.

+10000 EXACTLY! Awesome PP, you nailed it. She is a basket case. I honestly don't think she understands 1/2 of what is going on. Even though I think Biden is on his way to dementia, I will give him that he's a career politician who has also been VP for some years and gets the relationships and big ideas. She is out of her depth entirely.

On the other hand, you get Trump (if he wins). Harris looks pretty good in comparison.

She’d swing open the borders even wider, if that’s possible. Lol.

The borders aren't open now, but the GOP scuttled the tools needed to address the issue, so that is on the GOP, not Biden. The issue could have been manifestly addressed by now if the GOp had simply ignored Trump and passed a bi-parisan bill.

A vote for anyone other than Biden is a vote for Trump, which would end NATO, and align the US with Putin, Orban, Xi and the other dictators around the world.

She’s a black woman. No one has ever cared about the VP before or paid any attention to them. They are always the butt of jokes so that part isn’t unique but the criticism and focus on “qualifications” is. So yes, misogyny but x10 because she’s black too.

Kamala was given this post totally based on her minority status and political record. Has nothing to do with her intellect, experience nor judgement. Biden didn't think he was going to run again remember? He just wanted to win a term and as a career politician, picked the worst running mate in hedging his bet of getting the black/woman vote to get there. He never thought probably he was going to actually need her. He's stuck with her. Why do you think she keeps getting shitty stuff to work on throughout his term? He doesn't really respect her either.
