Amazon or Capital One internship?

Amazon, easily. Your kid is still young. Amazon has better prestige and is a gateway to better companies.

Amazon, hands down its a major recognition on your resume and yes its a hard environment but good to experience that early in your career before you have a lot of life commitments.

Capital one is not that great of a thing on your resume its ok but not a MAANG

Yes. Only an idiot would consider a credit card company. Amazon is not great but C1 is horrible.

Capital One is a bank, not a credit card company, and one of the 10 largest in the US.

Actual credit card companies (Visa, Amex, etc) are also great places to work, more reasonable hours than investment banks but still top pay.

OP - these are both great options to have. But please don’t listen to people whose only knowledge of capital one is from their commercials.

+1

It’s not what everyone thinks it is. Most Stay 2-3 years and get PIPed.

This is absolutely not true- “most” people do not get performance managed. I work at Amazon and absolutely love it, fwiw. I’m based at HQ2. I’m in AWS which seems like a friendlier culture than the retail side, but it has been my favorite job to date, and I’ve been fortunate enough to work at some pretty amazing places. Like everywhere, it depends on the team/ people you work with. My days are busy but I’ve had incredible opportunities and my overall lifestyle is quite sustainable if not enviable compared to my peers elsewhere.

Just throwing out an alternative viewpoint! Congrats on the great choices!

I was concerned when ds took an AWS job reading all kind of terrible things on line. He loves it! Starting salary in more than mine. Hours on very flexible and fewer than mine as a fed...aside from an occasional on call 24/7 week. He interned for a finance co in college and turned down the return offer for a variety of reasons.

Cap 1 is a wannabe fin tech company. A CS major should 💯 go to Amazon!!! It’s just and internship and after that maybe 18 months before the next jump. Get Amazon on your res.
