She was or is a USAid contracting officer and the Prosecutor's office declined to press charges so presumably she was able to keep her job. She continued to send her kids there for at least a year after this was discovered.

Did the Lafayette parent get named publicly? The Powell person is named everywhere.

You don't even need that. The books should be subject to review by any member upon request and the should be regularly audited

Upon request? They should be published regularly.

She should have been named far and wide.

She wasn't named but was referred to by her PTO title which made it easy, at the time, to identify her.

this is perhaps the least self congratulatory LinkedIn profile I've ever seen. There are plenty of things to criticize her about but promoting herself on a professional networking site seems the least important.

Are you her friend? ‘Elevated genius’ seems like a bit much for a company name but I do now have a bias. She is a thief after all.

Question about Lafayette lady: if you stole like that, wouldn’t it effectively lead to you losing your job?

I mean this: I’d go from HSA directly to OIG at AID and say “this woman just admitted she stole thousands of dollars from a position of public trust.”

How would you be allowed to be close to money? To direct US funds? To have any level of security clearance?

No charges and no record. HSA probably didn't do that because of liabilty fears. Heck, her name doesn't even show up when you look for it. It's been memory holed.

Public trust clearance is very basic, so it probably wouldn’t show up on that… but Secret up asks if you’ve ever been charged with a crime, admitted to a crime, etc, etc… They also interview people in your life. It’s incredibly unlikely this wouldn’t turn up.

She wasn't charged and she likely did not admit.

She got off pretty easy. There were no charges, she wasn’t publicly-named and, IMO, the parent-community was very forgiving.

ha! no, not her friend. never heard of her before this story came out. I just think that's a strange thing to fixate on when there is so much else to worry about

It was not returned quickly. She had even sent it overseas to try and hide it.

It was returned when police got involved, in a (successful) attempt to avoid prosecution. Her job was to manage budgets for USAID -- I wonder if she was stealing from them too.

You can still find her name if you search the way back machine, she is listed as the treasurer for accounts payable, then disappears later in the year:

It looks like she worked USAID contractors, so she wouldn't necessarily need a clearance, but she. may have been managing budgets for these companies. Surprised that they never pressed charges though.

Woah, looks like she now works at Conservation International AND was hired by a Lafayette parent!
