Are you using Niche? Because IF Niche is your compass, Madeira is ranked #3 in the DC area. Stone Ridge is ranked somewhere down in the 20s or 30s. Honestly I got tired of scrolling down to find it. |
Where’s Oakcrest? Haven’t heard of that one. |
Well that's quite the exageration considering SR is #18. People really like to stretch the truth around here. Oh and Madeira is not #3 either. |
| No joy at SR |

| Madeira girls are divided socially between boarders and day students. The day students are on the outs as the boarders feel it's more their school. Boarders have a lot of emotional issues that they bring into the classrooms. |
What does this mean? When I was at Madeira, some of the boarding girls had parents who had divorced, but they were good students. The day/boarding divide is only as big as you make. Many day and boarding students are friends. Some of my best friends were boarders. As a day student, I enjoyed staying with them. Stone Ridge is a wonderful school as well. The Sacred Heart order has such a special calling. Their network is awesome. ( I know this from friends who went to Stone Ridge and had a positive experience.) |

Not true. Current parent of a day student. She has a true mix of friends that are boarders and day. As for the emotional issues you cite, that also is not true. This is a boarding school, not a home for troubled teens. Are there emotional issues at privates? Yeah, at day schools and boarding schools. Madeira probably has less mental health issues than some of the pressure cooker schools around here. And the new HOS is actively working to improve mental health (just like their peer schools). They are going to do social emotional learning activities at the end of each module next year. One of the reasons the parents wanted Ms. Kyong as HOS, because she was very interested in what could be done post CoVID to help teens feel less stressed and more grounded. |
Madeira is #4 on this list. https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-private-high-schools/m/washington-dc-metro-area/ Niche is strange. |

| Madeira, don't become BIM. |
Touché |
I'm not the PP, but a lot of people have mentioned Maderia's equestrian program. To mention it is not stereotyping. I don't think PP was trying to disparage Madeira or horses-just that that aspect would not be a big draw. |
| How long is the commute to Madeira vs Stone Ridge for you? These schools are not close to each other...something to consider. |
